Sensitive to Fillers - Changing from WP to Nature-Throid and Struggling

Hi.....I've been doing really well on WP Thyroid for the last two years, and was thrilled that I had finally found a medication that my body responded well too. However, I recently have had to switch to Nature-Throid, as I couldn't get the WP, and I'm feeling absolutely dreadful. Is there anyone on here who is very sensitive to fillers, and has had to change from WP to Nature-Throid? It just doesn't get into my cells, and I think I need to increase my dosage to try and alleviate some symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this? I know I won't feel great again until I'm back on the WP, but I'm hoping to feel better than this. Thanks

Kere,

After WP, NatureThroid is the next most hypoallergenic NDT. How long have you been taking NatureThroid and are you taking the same dose as when you were taking WP?

kere in reply toClutter

Thanks for your reply. I've been taking Nature-Throid for 12 days. I was taking 81.25mg, which is the same dosage as my WP, but within days I was feeling ghastly. Muscle and joint pain, constant nausea, struggling to walk, could hardly talk, couldn't think, and my body convulsing. I increased to 97.5 and started coming back to life, but within a couple of days I was feeling dreadful again. Have been taking 103 for the past 4 days now.

Kere,

If symptoms don't improve in a week or two you might want to try Armour or Acella NP.

kere in reply toClutter

I've been on Armour before and it had the same effects on me as the Nature-Throid.....my body just didn't like it at all. I haven't tried NP though. Will see how I go over the next week or so. Thanks for your response.

I think you will like NP by Acella in place of your WP and especially in place of the Naturethroid. Here in the states, Naturethroid is finally becoming available here and there and early reports are that the 'new' Naturethroid is sweet and readily dissolves. That is a far cry from the 'old' Naturethroid which was not sweet and tasted and acted like chalk...hard to dissolve.

Thanks for your reply. My body has never tolerated any type of medication or supplement that contains microcrystalline cellulose, and that's probably why I'm feeling so awful on Nature-Throid. I see that Acella's NP doesn't contain this ingredient so I think I'll give it a try.

I had to stop taking Naturethroid a year ago after having been on it for years. I suspected something had changed in the fillers used. I sadly changed to Tirosent. It is synthetic and has worked well for me.

hi phoenix

would you be so kind as to pm me please where to buy this NP by Acella? I have googled it and can't see where to order it from.

Am in a bit of a panic now as I dont know what else to do when my WP Thyroid runs out. My 3 months' supply doesn't feel as secure as I hoped!

thanks so much.

Is NP natural or synthetic please ? I’m interested in his feed as I’ve been on Nature Throid since last October - (3 grains ) but am having quite a few issues -

Gritty eyes

Hair loss

Hard to do brain work

Shoulders frozen & painful ltd movements

( 20 years on Levothyroxine- was awful & changed nothing )

Also where can I buy it ? I currently get a private prescription from a UK Endocrinologist & buy in UK from a special pharmacy.

kere in reply toAvidreader

Apologies for the late reply, I have only just seen your comment now. NP is a natural desiccated thyroid medicine, and for me, it seems to be the only other one my body will tolerate. I purchase NP from an international pharmacy that I send my prescription to.

So are you saying the “New Nature Throid “ is now not as good ? As I’m seeing a few posts mentioning the NEW Nature Throid on here - ? I’ve been o. It since October ‘17 and have very stiff shoulders & neck ( which I’m having physio for ) physio says there’s “ swelling on neck “ I’m thinking this may be inflammation from new drug ? But I may be wrong ! Is WP ( for example ) more pure ? / better ? 🤔

phoenix23002 profile image
phoenix23002 in reply toAvidreader

Avidreader... no, not saying the 'new' Naturethroid is better or not as good as before. Some folks are taking the 'new' and doing just fine on it but some are getting hypo on it. As always, we are all so different and respond differently to the very same things. I take WP because it has fewer fillers and I do well on it. When the 'new' WP becomes available in a few months (fingers crossed), it may be different and I may not do as well on it as on the 'old' formula. Time will tell. We just have to experiment. I will probably start taking NP by Acella if the new WP doesn't suit me. NP is a lot like the old, old Armour.... small, sweet and dissolves easily.

Is it ( WP ) made by the same manufacturers in USA that make Nature Throid ? I thought Nature Throid was one of The purest ones ?

phoenix23002 profile image
phoenix23002 in reply toAvidreader

Yes, WP and Naturethroid are manufactured by RLC Labs. WP supposedly only has three ingredients whereas Naturethroid has many more but they both are 'pure' products with listed ingredients. You don't have to guess about the additives. With the Thailand brands, the ingredients may not be listed as openly. Here is a link to a list and explanation of each prescription brand as well as over the counter products. The first one is a newbie.... out of India I think and why they chose to call themselves WP is beyond me. But, they have only just become available and already have a recall for their product. Folks who use WP are having to be very careful which WP they are getting. The new one may be just fine but for now, the jury is out.

You can check it's the fillers by taking an antihistamine 1 hour earlier and see if that helps.

I am very allergic to fillers and have switched from Armour to Nature Throid. It definitely feels weaker (T3 and T4 down a bit from what they were) but I have no allergy problems with it.

Thanks for your response. I've had to increase the dosage too, but I'm feeling awful. Can't wait to be back on my WP!

I’m in the same boat. I was doing so well on WP thyroid and when I ran out I was left with thyroid s . Much harder to get the right dose, as the more you have , the more side effects from the fillers. At the moment I’m on 1 grain thyroid s and some T3.

However as far as the NHS are concerned, I’m supposed to be on levothyroxine. My endocrinologist said in September that I should try all the levothyroxine brands for at least 6 weeks and if it doesn’t suit, try liquid levothyroxine.

I told my dr that the terra brand that I had was the only lactose free variety, so no surprise that trying mercury brand felt worse. I am at my best when I follow the AIP diet, so I’m actively cutting out sensitivities in my diet. I didn’t want to keep trying other levo brands as knowing they weren’t lactose free didn’t make sense,

I am trying to get a trail of the liquid levothyroxine . The pharmacist thinks the endocrinologist should be prescribing it and paying for it. My next bloods are due.

kere in reply toCharliebrowne

Thanks for your response. I hope we can get WP again soon, and I hope you can get to try the liquid levo in the meantime.

hi

I didn't realise there was a shortage of WP Thyroid. That would throw me major problems too as I also found the Naturethroid just did't seem to get into my cells; I say that because it was though I was only taking half the dose [I take 4 and half grains daily].

Switching to WP Thyroid some years ago is the best meds I found so far. I'm still not well but am the best I have been in 17 years on WP Thyroid.

I have about 3 months' supply left so will see if I can still order some more of my chosen NDT as I can't bear the thought of running out :0(

kere profile image
kere in reply tohels333

It's not in production at the moment, and no date of expected production has been issued from RLC yet. This is a temporary issue, but I have no idea if we're looking at weeks or months. The RLC facebook page has updates on it if you're interested.

SilverAvocado profile image

Nature-throid has also been scarce since RLC labs break in supply, so you probably won't be able to get more anytime soon. Better to make a start on a more available brand.

I'm in New Zealand, and because not many people take dessicated thyroid here it's easy to get. The compounding pharmacy that I deal with literally have thousands. Not fair is it! It's the WP that I can't get, unfortunately.

I am sensitive to fillers as I could not tolerate normal levothyroxine. It was like I was being poisoned.

I take Martindale's levothyroxine in calcium phosphate prescribed by my gp (originally prescribed by Endo) and then I take 1 grain of WP. I managed to get some WP about a month ago. I have tried NDT alone and found that thyroid-s was ok for me, just felt hotter than normal so I would say that I was ok with the fillers in that.

The purified levo that I take is mega expensive so lord only knows how long I will be allowed it.

Are you taking triosint?

Chippysue profile image
Chippysue in reply toCandu

Not heard of that???

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply toChippysue

It is a typo for Tirosint. Has many times been discussed here. The USA site is here:

tirosint.com/

It is actually a European product and is being seen in more and more European countries such as Italy, Greece, Netherlands, France and Switzerland but not, so far, in the UK. It could be imported but the cost might be much higher.

The cost to the NHS would be a fraction of what Martindales charge, were it to be available in the UK on similar basis to those other countries.

Chippysue profile image
Chippysue in reply toCandu

No, I take (at the moment) purified Levo - so it’s just Levo with calcium phosphate hand made in gel capsule, and 1 grain ndt

I too have been doing very well on WP, but because of the shortage, I cannot get it. I switched to Nature like 3 days ago and can already feel a negative difference. I'm tired and foggy. However, I don't see much way out of this predicaments since they are still not shipping WP. I'm very unhappy with this situation because I would pay A LOT to get that WP. If anyone has any clever ways to get WP, please let m know.

Hi everyone....I just wanted to say thanks to you all for your responses and suggestions. Things got very bad for me on the Nature-Throid, but I'm doing pretty well now on the NP by Acella. I'm looking forward to getting back on the WP, when it's available, as I felt so great on that, but the NP is keeping me going in the meantime. I really appreciate your replies, as I'd never even heard of NP before. Thanks again : )

I too have been so sick on Nature thyroid . I was taking Wp . I feel like I am being poisoned . I take synthroid and nature thyroid together , I use to take Wp thyroid and Synthroid worked great . Now I can’t fuction at all feel super sick and my joints are so painful .

kere profile image
kere in reply toCandu

I'm sorry to read that you're not feeling well on Nature-Throid. It made me so incredibly sick, my body just doesn't tolerate it at all. I'm still taking NP by Acella, and although my body doesn't like it as much as the WP Thyroid, it seems to be a good alternative for me while I patiently wait for WP to be available again. Have you tried it?
