Hi H, apart from when I was first diagnosed and put on a few pounds, I have never gained weight. In fact, keeping it on has been the main problem. I think my adrenal glands have been over worked over the years, having to 'take up the slack', whilst being unwell on Levothyroxine. I am treating high cortisol, but I need a high fat, low carb diet to maintain my weight. Have you thought of trying a protein drink? Bulk Powders have a good selection.
I cannot have high fat foods due to stomach issues. Difficult to digest fats also diagnosed w biliary dyskinesia. Told eat small meals. Are protein shakes high fat or very filling? Thx
Sometimes I would be painfully thin yet eating like a horse... (well, ..eating a lot more than straw really..)yet I have hypothroidism !People would disagree and say I was 'hyper'...or I had anorexia or was bulimic!Since coming on this forum I realise I'm not unique to this symptom!
Needing to be absolutely 100% gluten free is very common with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's)
You need to look for hidden gluten everywhere, don't share same toaster, butter, use different cutting boards etc etc
Many patients are quite thin when hypo, not as unusual as we might think, but many doctors don't realise this can still be a hypothyroid patient.
