Confused about results *Update*

I replied to my older post but I guess it wasn’t flagged so I will start a new one , I hope this ok

Sorry for the late update I went away on holiday and just remembered to update.

I spoke to my doctor about the antibody result and she didn’t disregarded it she just didn’t want to label it as hashimoto but did confirm that it is a possibility, she kinda just pushed it to one side but did agree that my Levo should be increased to 50mcg.

When I asked her about the gluten free diet regarding the hashi she suggested that I should wait until my next blood test result which I will have on the 17th Oct and if I want to try the gluten free then I can but that was all she really said about hashi.

She checked my blood result for ferritin, b12 and folate and the results were.

Ferritin 22.000 ug/L. 10 - 322 ug/L

B12. 308.000 ug/L. 211 - 911 ug/L

Folate. 6.699 ug/L. 2 - 11.5 ug/L

She said they were fine but will test my vitamin D with the next blood test.

I did explain to her I wasn’t trying to tell her about her job which she did laugh and say that’s fine any information you give is helpful.

I will update you on the next results and hopefully I will get them from the doctor and not the receptionist this time.

Again thank you all for your help in helping me understand all of this.

She said they were fine - POPPYCOCK!

She has said they are fine because they fall somewhere within the range but they are not optimal which is where us Hypos need our nutrient levels to be for thyroid hormone to work. Unfortunately, doctors aren't taught nutrition so they don't know the difference between 'in ange' and 'optimal'.

Your ferritin is way too low. It needs to be a minimum of 70 for thyroid hormone to work, recommended is half way through range. You need an iron supplement but you wont get one off your GP because you're in range. You can buy your own - ferrous fumarate from Ebay or Amazon - and when you've finished the packet (84) retest which you can do with Medichecks, they do a fingerprick Iron Status test for about £29. You must keep a check on your level when supplementing.

Take each iron tablet with 1000mg Vitamin C to aid absorption and help prevent constipaton. Always take iron 4 hours away from thyroid meds and two hours away from other medication and supplements as it will affect absorption.

You can also help raise your level by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet apjcn.nhri.org.tw/server/in...

As for B12 at 308, that is far too low. An extract from the book, "Could it be B12?" by Sally M. Pacholok:

"We believe that the 'normal' serum B12 threshold needs to be raised from 200 pg/ml to at least 450 pg/ml because deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebrospinal fluid below 550".

"For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml."

Sublingual methylcobalamin lozenges are what's needed if you wish to self supplement, start with 5000mcg daily then when the bottle is finished change to 1000mcg daily, along with a good quality B Complex to balance all the B vitamins.

You could check for signs of B12 deficiency here b12deficiency.info/signs-an... and if you have any then post on the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum for further advice healthunlocked.com/pasoc

When your Vit D is tested, be aware that the Vit D Council recommends a level between 100-150nmol/L so if you're not within that range post your result for suggestions from members.
