I posted two weeks ago about lack of improvement in the last ten years. I'm on T3 only and my GP says I'm over medicated because of my TSH when T4 and T3 are both below range. I asked if this could be an absorption issue, as I believe I have low stomach acid. He did a raft of blood tests, but not thyroid, all came back ok. Had U/sound on liver that was ok as well. I got the usual "Eat healthy, drink water and try to loose weight." and nothing more.
I decided to try to help myself and added Metavive to my 2x40 mcg T3 and although two weeks is early days, I'm feeling no better. I took meds. at 6am today and by 9 am my temp. is down to 34.6.
Something is not right but where do I go from here?

If you are on T3, do you need the Gp at all? Can't you just buy your own and get private blood tests? If both your FT3 and FT4 are under range, it sounds as though you need in increase in T3
Hi Beaton In you last post it was mentioned that you may need to take Apple Cider Vinegar or HCL Betaine with Pepsin for your low stomach acid. Are you now taking this? Low stomach acid will prevent T3 from being absorbed.
Also have you had an adrenal saliva test done in the recent past? You may well have low/high cortisol output and that would impede absorption of thyroid meds.
It's really more than increasing thyroid meds - this won't work if other aspects as well as low nutrients, aren't in place.
I sympathise as I am having similar difficulties as yourself and trying to sort them out is an absolute nightmare.
This is why I wnet to see my GP, might as well have stayed home.Yes taking both Apple Cider Vinigar and Betaine. Haven't had Adreal saliva test done because of cost. I saw my reflexologist last week, all endocrines were bad. I could have cryed with the pain, something I don't normal get. .
You don't need to take both vinegar and Betaine - one or the other will do. If you stick with the vinegar take before a meal - Betaine you take during a meal. I take the Betaine because the vinegar wasn't enough for me. I would have preferred the vinegar.
Just out of curiosity - how are your ferritin levels - have you had the usual tests done for D2, B12, Folate and Ferritin? These would make a huge difference to how you feel.
Adrenals are also important and I need to get my saliva test done too but as you say - cost. Will have to save. I know I have cortisol problems because my sleep is poorly - get off okay but wake during the night - wide awake - heart racing, headache and sweating. Telltale sign of adrenals. How is your sleeping pattern?
This a very difficult condition to deal with as there are so many aspects that can upset the apple cart and you find you are forever chasing your own tail. Or so it seems like it.
I think the longer you have had this condition the more problems it seems to throw up.
Your FT3 is below range when taking 80 mcg T3 a day? How do you take it? On an empty stomach, one hour before food and any drink other than water? And at least four hours away from other supplements and medication? Are you taking any other supplements or medication?
Magnesium should be taken six hours away from T3, for maximum absorption of T3. Vit D, and other minerals, at least four hours away. B vits two hours away but vit C can be taken with it, and could increase absorption. How much C do you take?
Mischa, I was taking AC vinegar breakfast time before the Betaine arrived, wasn't much better for it, continued with it adding Betaine at lunch and dinner. Betaine seems better, so I'll stick to that.
Ferritin, 90 (30-400)
B12, 656 (180-866)
Folate. 10.8 (3.9-26.8)
D2 not tested.
My sleep is poor, So tired drop off, wide awake within an hour. Do find I'm sweating in the night and have vivid complicated dreams, so not switching off, but no heart problems or headaches.
Your GP was trained to interpret blood tests of patients taking Levothyroxine. Most GPs have also been taught that suppressed TSH = overmedication. This isn't true as long as FT3 is within range.
You are taking T3 only and if you were optimally dosed FT4 would be in the upper third of range. TSH will usually be suppressed and FT4 very low to non-existant.
Why don't you increase T3 dose until you are optimally dosed?
Hi have you tried taking your T3 in split doses? If you're waking during the night try taking half your dose then. I've been doing this this week and I find, most unusually, that I go straight back to sleep and sleep heavily. I chew up the tablet , which I think helps with absorption. I often wake in a sweat, fast pulse etc too. The T3 dose helps with this.
Hi Bert, slept all night, Friday was exceptionally busy with four year old grandaughter ill at my place. So ready to try tonight. Tabs by my bed. Thanks for asking. xx
