Hi in the last few months I have noticed hair loss but this last month up till today it's coming out more than ever my skin has become so dry finding no moisturisers or oils doing much good I have been taking ferrous sulphate twice a day since my last bloods in July as my ferritin was what I thought was low. GP didn't think so 49 ng/ml 15-300 I'm not sure why this is happening in April I had a good head of hair skin was OK too. My latest thyroid results on the 8th September were TSH 0.03 mu/L ( 0.3 -5.0) Free T4 8.7 pmol/L (7.9-16.0) Free T3 5.6pmol/L2 (3.8-6.0 I have been on 75mcg Levo and just over half a 20mcg T3 I've never had hairloss like this in such a short space of time it's actually getting worse any ideas as to what it could be down too? I'll need a wig if it carrys on
Alarming hair loss happening: Hi in the last few... - Thyroid UK
Alarming hair loss happening
Mine has also been coming out very alarmingly for the last few weeks ...ironically my bloods have been roughly the same overy last year or so and have been working on getting them up and part of that was to try and get my ferritin up ...which it did after just 5or 6 wk of supplementing !!...however. ..that is when my hairloss started!!....vitamins and iron were the only things I had altered ...go figure!..coincidence? but also just last week my T4 level has dropped below range...could be related to low t4?.I really don't know, but looking at your levels t4 looks low but t3 good...maybe it is related to that...I have no experience of combo and whether low t4 matters like it does on levothyroxine alone but I wonder if adding more levo and slightly reducing t3 would help you out by getting that t4 up but not going over range on t3?
I was thinking the same to drop T3 down and take more T4 for a bit I didn't do to great on T4 only the T3 did give me that get and and go more it's on since last 2 months the hair has really come out too much
Yes maybe your t4 has dropped over last couple of months ..you might want to compare some old bloods or get new ones.
At there highest it was 14 but this year it's mostly been around the same with suppressed TSH which is the usual being on T3 it's only been the last couple of months this has happened haven't a clue as to why
There is a useful descriptive paper commenting on relationships between hair loss (Alopecia) and thyroid dysfunction.

Hi, interesting study by NIH regarding T4 and T3: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/187...
Also, you mentioned not knowing to what to attribute the hair loss. Typically it’s what happened on average 3 to 6 months prior to the loss, sooner if your hair grows fast.
Finally, hair loss is complex balance of all hormones, not just thyroid, e.g. estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, etc.
Thank you interesting read
That time lag makes sense to me. I have had problems with thinning hair since thyroid disease kicked in and it reminds me of each time I was pregnant and my hair always thinned loads about four months after the birth. But back to thyroid, my hair loss has got noticeably worse recently and if I look back four/five months it's when I had a huge swing on carbimazole from overactive to underactive. But as I've had lots of change in general this whole year I guess my hair will keep dropping for some time to come.
It's very strange I've upped my Levo by 25mcg to 75 mcg lowered my T3 to more or less half of a 20mcg and I get more hot flushes and sweats around chest and neck area feelngs of anxiousness plus the hair loss was feeling pretty good as well
