if you have a problem with gluten and you eat it does it make you feel really sick very soon after?

since being diagnosed diabetic ive noticed if i eat gluten i feel really really sick within minutes and it lasts for hours

its mainly bread, pasty and rice (not that i eat it often as my sugar levels dont like it)

Rice doesn't naturally contain gluten but is often cross contaminated in factories processing wheat the same is true for oats

Hi mandy72 -

rice does not contain gluten but antinutrients that someone might react to; I don't think this would be an immediate reaction though.

I feel it the next day if I have been 'glutened': joint pains, headache, and digestion problems that last a few days.

Is it possible that you react to the carbohydrates? If your blood sugar goes high or very high and then crashes low it can make you feel unwell; you could test your blood glucose levels before eating and every ten minutes or so after to see if there is a connection.

I react very quickly to sugar, I feel hot, dizzy and sick.

I now eat a paleo type diet and feel much better without the carb rollercoaster.

Maybe you should ask your Dr to test you for Coeliac if you are getting that reaction

Hiya - if you're diabetic (or even if you're not!), I suggest you follow a strict grain free diet. This eliminates wheat, eye, barley, corn, millet and related. Best to also include rice and oats due to high carb load.

Many issues with grains:

- the damaging gliadin protein (a component of gluten) that attacks the intestinal lining and triggers autoimmune disease and gut distress

- the carb chain Amylopectin A thats so highly digestible that it spikes blood sugar higher than sucrose

- the phytates that bind to key minerals and prevent absorption (iron, zinc, magnesium etc)

That's just for starters.

If you are diabetic and hypo, removing grains is a must. Take a look at this:
