TillyTT Members are more likely to respond if you tell us something about yourself and your thyroid journey. They will also be able to offer guidance if you post your latest thyroid test results, specifically FT4 and FT3, as to whether you should reduce your dose of levo when adding T3.

Hi SeasideSusie, I'v updated my profile as requested and here's my current situation:

I recently had a consutation with an endo and he said I probably needed T3 but that he couldn't prescribe on the NHS as it was now on the blacklist but he could give me a private prescription if the blood tests didn't show any other cause for my symptons. Blood test showed that I'm not converting T4 to T3 so endo offered me a prescrition for some T3 at £180 for 4 weeks of pills!

I can't afford this so I need to source my own T3 like a lot of other people on this forum.

If you post your results Tilly, guidance can be offered for dosing, if your endo hasn't already done that :)

I haven't got a copy of my test results but I will ask for them. The endo has recommended I start on 10mg (5mg twice day) and follow up with another blood test in 6 weeks.

OK, so hopefully your endo is experienced in prescribing T3 and understands that it often suppresses TSH and can also lower FT3.

When members self supplement, it's advised to start with a quarter of a tablet, once daily. As self sourced T3 is generally 25mcg tablets, that's a start dose of 6.25mcg, wait two weeks then add in another 6.25mcg. It's always advised to go low and slow when adding T3, increasing gradually.

Depending on where your FT4 level is currently, you may need to reduce your dose of Levo. Generally when FT4 is at the upper end of it's range, it's suggested that a 25mcg reduction in Levo is made to start with.

T3 is generally said to be 3-4 times the equivalent of Levo. So 5mcg T3 is roughly the same as 15-20mcg Levo. If you start with 10mcg T3 daily that's the equivalent of 30-40mcg Levo and I dare say some adjustment to your Levo will need to be made.

Susie, I've looked at <internet source> and ordered some Cytomel 25 Mcg 100 TABS, but when I tried to pay via MoneyGram I only get the option transfer in MXN (peso?) but <internet source> want USD. Is MoneyGram safe or do recommend another method of payment?

I used Western Union with no issues.

So, I placed an order and it was dispatched on 8th Sep but it still hasn't arrived yet (Royal Mail tracker say they havn't had proof of delivery). What's other peoples experience of delivery times from Mexico?

TillyTT,

It would be better to write a new post as not many people will be following a 2 month old thread.

Members have reported delivery taking 4-8 weeks from Mexico. Does tracking show whether it has arrived in UK?
