Michelle - you may want repost results without GP name and your NHS #. Ferritin at the bottom of the range, and should be 70 - 100 min. ideally. Supplement on an empty stomach along with 1000 mg Vit C to help with digestion 2xper day.

Rusty thankyou im still trying to learn things. Thankyou for advice on iron levels. Do you have to get iron levels tested regulary at docs

in reply toRmichelle

Get them tested whenever other bloods are done, just as all the nutrients should be monitored. Don't wait for your GP to do something about your iron - and it's not rocket science OK 😉 . My levels were right where yours are, so I marched out and got my iron supplement of ferrous fumerate 200 mg and take it 2-3 x a day on an empty stomach along with Vit C. GPs know virtually nothing about supplements and can barely interpret the labs apparently when such low levels go unnoticed. Mine were ignored also. That's why we need to get proactive and get our labs printed out and keep our own records. Learning this stuff doesn't happen overnite tho. Rest assured you will pick this up if you have the will to learn more. X

Good! I'm glad to hear that positive attitude - it will help a lot. The forum is a great place to learn about anything related to Thyroid. And a great place for support.

Well, there are no antibody tests, and your Frees aren't that high. I really do think you need antibody testing.

Rmichelle profile image
Rmichelle in reply togreygoose

Do i need to ask doc for antibody test then? Still hyper though. Doc given me lose dose to start with. Are lron levels ok?

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toRmichelle

Yes, you do need to ask. They will rarely do them off their own bat because they have such faith in the almighty TSH test to tell them everything! But it doesn't.

What I'm thinking is that this may not be Grave's. Graves results are usually much more extreme than this. It could be Hashi's, on a 'hyper' swing, and you will very quickly go hypo. Of course, I could be way off the mark! But, I just have a feeling about this.

I'm afraid I don't know much about iron. But your ferritin is very, very low. I would think it need supplementing.

Oh my god i dont know where to begin, i will ask the doc for thyroid antibody test but they will say why? Sorry to be such a pain in the neck but do i ask doc for tablets ferferritn 😨

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toRmichelle

I know, it is confusing. And, I'm afraid I'm making it more confusing for you. Sorry.

I don't know what your doctor will say. You can only ask and find out. Doctors are all different, with varying degrees of understanding of thyroid. Tell him you want confirmation that you do have Grave's. If he refuses, you could get it done privately.

I don't think there's any point in asking your doctor for iron tablets, it's already marked on your lab slip 'no action'. The problem is, doctors know even less about nutrition than they do about thyroid! But, you could buy your own iron tablets. Hopefully SeasideSusie will come along and give you better advice on this. :)

Greygoose thankyou so much i just feel overwhelmed with everything i need to do, its not you!! Just want to try and sort things. Also doc gave me carbimazole to take now.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toRmichelle

Yes, I understand.

How much did he give you? As your Frees are only a little over-range, you only need a tiny dose. Keep an eye on your symptoms, too.

Rmichelle in reply togreygoose

20mgs one a day. So is 4 weeks is another blood test?

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toRmichelle

Well, that seems ok. I think it's a test in four weeks, yes. But, as I said, keep an eye on your symptoms.

Rmichelle in reply togreygoose

Greygoose if im going to get test fot antibodies done will the carbimaxole effect the test?

greygoose in reply toRmichelle

Not as far as I know, no.

Rmichelle Yes, Ferritin needs addressing. I can't read results for MCV but I think it's low. MCH is low. This can all indicate iron deficiency so you should speak to your GP about prescribing for this. It could be Ferrous Fumarate, 1 tablet 2 or 3 times a day. Take each tablet with 1000mg Vit C to aid absorption and help prevent constipation, and keep away from thyroid meds by 4 hours, and any other medication and supplements by 2 hours.

Seaside susie i will go to docs but it says my iron levels are in range but i suspect they havent been for a while, but wont he say why do you need it if yoyr levels are in range?

SeasideSusie profile image
SeasideSusieRemembering in reply toRmichelle

Yes he probably will say that, but look how low they are! Have you changed the picture, it's all blurry now so I can't see them? As I said, MCH is low and I think MCV is low.

Scroll down on this link labtestsonline.org.uk/under... until you reach the table 'Components of the FBC' and you will see

MCV Mean Corpuscular Volume - Increased with B12 and Folate deficiency, liver disease, underactive thyroid, pregnancy, alcohol excess, some bone marrow disorders; decreased with iron deficiency, longstanding inflammatory disorders and thalassaemia

MCH Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin - May be low in iron deficiency, inflammatory conditions and thalassaemia

They say decreased/low - it doesn't say 'below range' so depending how low they are, you may need to be assertive and argue that they are low and that interpretation says it may be iron deficiency.

Hi RMichelle

The document shows your FT3 is a little raised and this is what indicates that your thyroid is a little overactive. There are no blood tests listed for thyroid antibodies. This would be shown as TgAb and TPO otherwise known as Thyroglubulin antibodies and Thyroperoxidase antibodies and there are some other antibodies that can be tested for Graves disease (nothing to do with graves, just named after the doctor who first described it).

You need to find out the cause of the overactivity so hopefully the Endo will be able to do this and give you some definitive answers. Someone else on here may be able to give you some more information than I can.

Erithrocyte sedimentation rate is raised but I wouldn't worry about it as its likely linked to your thyroid condition and it's simply an indication of inflamation. You can read more about it in the link below.

mayoclinic.org/tests-proced...

Folate and ferritin are low but within NHS range. You can find out more about vitamins but you probably need to tackle one thing at a time and just get the right diagnosis for your overactive thyroid first.

You could read up about causes of overactive thyroid so that you are more knowledgable when you visit your Endo and your doctor. Thyroid UK have good information on their website. British Thyroid Foundation have online leaflets. Mayo Clinic is in the USA but they also have user friendly information on their website and there is NHS choices.

Nanaedake in reply toRmichelle

Yes, iron is a little low but still within NHS range so doc won't do anything about it. You could discuss it given that it's been low before. You could just supplement yourself. You have to be careful though not to supplement too much so you should discuss with your doctor so that he can test it again in a few months and make sure you don't go over.
