I dont understand the paperwork I am hyperthyroid with graves disease I have done a previous post too stating about my lump on my neck people were asking for results of bloods this was the only way I could think of to show them
Copys of bloods I have had done : I dont... - Thyroid UK
Copys of bloods I have had done
I'm afraid these results are very difficult to read. But, from what I can gather, your TSH is suppressed, and your FT3 is slightly over-range, but your FT4 is low in comparison. There is nothing to say you have Grave's. No antibody tests.
What were you taking at the time of each of these tests?
I was taking 40mg of carbimizole. I'm surprised they are not on there as my endo said my antibodies are high and yes I have graves he told me when I asked him How strange. Think i need to ask my gp when i see him to have a look at my anti body levels
Isn't it amazing that we have to query and check up on the medical profession. Why cannot they explain to the patient exactly what is happening in their body due to the lack or excessive amount of thyroid hormones.
Depressingly that's so true.
I had my blood test recently and found out after that the doctor had ordered the wrong test, and couldn't tell the difference between FT3 and Total T3. He implied they were the same thing??!
I don't know how they spend their time in medical school?!# Yet another missed FT3 test. Seriously vexed!
These appear to be the relevant results (ranges are in brackets, ? indicate I couldn't make out the number):
Apr FT4 14 (8-21), FT3 7.1 (3.? -6.0)
Mar FT4 25 (8-21), FT3 9.8 (3.? -6.0)
Jan FT4 29 (8-21), FT3 12.9 (3.? -6.0)
TSH suppressed throughout: 0.01
No sign of TRAB or TSI (antibody tests).
These are fairly typical for Graves: FT3 is often the first number to become elevated and the last to come down. TSH recovery tends to lag behind a bit in terms of recovery, but in any case, your FT3 was still high at the time of the last test. EIther way, they should have done antibody tests to confirm Graves'.
Presumably they kept you to the same dose of carbimazole in April because they will have wanted to get the FT3 within range as quickly as possible. It's good they only left four weeks between the March and April tests - this minimised the chances of your thyroid levels dropping through the bottom of the range without anyone noticing (although you would almost certainly have spotted the change in symptoms).
I see from other posts that both FT4 and FT3 have been elevated again recently (although FT4 went first) and that you have been on 50mg/day of carbimazole. Are you also taking any levothyroxine ? Did they reduce the carbimazole in April ? (ie before your thyroid levels started going up again ?)
My thyroid stayed swollen and was itchy for quite a few months.
I've been taking 40mg carbimizole daily until about a week back. My free thyroxine went from 7.1 to 7.7 so my endo as put me on 50mg carbimizole a day. I dont take any other thyroid medication. He wants to squash my levels ready for a thyroidoctomy. My symptoms have not improved I still feel the same my endo said this is quite normal when you are thyrotoxic.
