Please help with finding a good GP in Doncaster.

Hi Everyone,

I hope it is ok to put up a post like this. I think I urgently need to find a better GP practice in Doncaster. The GP practice I am with seems to be causing more stress than I can deal with. I had been to see 2 GP's at my current practice who both told me I didn't have a Thyroid problem as they had ruled it out going my the TSH and FT4 test. One GP then told me if I had high antibodies that would just mean I was at higher risk for the future. I have been feeling very ill so after advice from here I decided to get a private test done. The results of this test indicate I have an underactive Thyroid. I went back to the GP and she said she would repeat a full Thyroid panel and the antibodies. Unfortunately my TSH was back down to TSH 2.69mu/l [0.35 - 4.94]. My free T4 level had also risen up to 15.6 pmol [9.0 - 19.0] which was up from the levels in the private test. So even though my thyroid peroxidase antibodies had risen higher also between the 2 tests this GP has told me I don't have an underactive Thyroid and to come back in 6 months. The problem is I want to try and use my private results to get a diagnosis as I might not be able to afford to repeat them in 6 months. Can anyone give me some advice please on how to go about finding a good GP where I live. Even a suggestion on what I could say if I start phoning GP surgeries myself to find out if they can treat Thyroid conditions. This GP also said she would be referring me to an Endocrinologist for the medication etc which seems strange. I also seem to have a constant sore throat which has been like this for the last two weeks. Could someone please help with some advice. Thanks so much.

email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk and ask for a copy of the Pulse Online article by Dr Toft, ex President of the BTA and in it, highlight the part where he states if antibodies are present, we should be given levothyroxine to 'nip things in the bud' meaning we are becoming hypo anyway. Give to your GP and she still refuses you may have to source your own levothyroxine. Also here is a link of clinical symptoms. Tick off yours and present to her.

Before levo and blood tests were introduced as the 'perfect replacement' for doctors' skill and knowledge of clinical symptoms we were given a trial of NDT and if they resolved we were hypo and NDT was gradually increased until we felt well. Not stopped due to the TSH.

Others will respond by Private Message if they have knowledge of a good doctor but I will close the post to prevent someone unwittingly putting up a doctor's name on the open forum.
