Hi I think I may have worms . My dog may have passed them on to me . I just have the embarrassing uncomfortable feeling down below . I'm worried that I need to treat these and will the medication be OK to take with thyroxine .

Andypandy30,

There's no medication which can't be taken because you are taking Levothyroxine. Discuss your symptoms with your pharmacist, if you do have worms you will need something to clear them.

You just need to take whatever medication you're given, well away from your thyroxine. :)

You're welcome. :)

The only medical way to test is by stool samples. ...But as I am impatient and don't want to be dosed with rounds and rounds of antibiotics (that's how they treat this stuff) I have ordered a bottle of this tincture that people rave about on Amazon, as well as iherb - black walnut tincture. You have to follow a protocol of dosing over a series of weeks but it's said to really, really work! Many people who work with animals use it (as well as using it on their pets too!) I'm giving it a try as soon as it arrives and will get my partner to try too as he has a bloated belly and digestive issues (and loves sushi) 🍣

I had the Genova comprehensive stool done (which found parasites amongst other things such as candida) and my functional medicine practitioner has put me on the product you've mentioned- black walnut and wormwood tincture- for 4 weeks with other things such as Uva Ursi followed by a different set of supplements for a further 4 weeks. The lab (Genova) were brilliant- they treated my stool samples with both conventional medicine and herbal remedies and proved that the black walnut was as effective as anything my GP would have prescribed. You're on the right path by the sounds of it!

I had them last year. Not embarrassing. You can get them from a salad bar if items weren't properly washed. Castor oil will get rid of them, or membenzedole.

Thank you ! I was just worried that whatever I could take would affect my levothyroxine as I'm v sensitive to any mess . Thank ux

The commonest kind of worms in humans in the UK are threadworms, also known as pinworms. I thought I had these a while ago and rather than get tested I just treated myself since, as far as I can tell, the treatment is fairly harmless.

The product that is available in the UK, without prescription, is Ovex :

You wouldn't be able to give Ovex to your dog. You would have to get a proper prescription from your vet.

If you think you have some kind of worm other than threadworms then you would need to be tested I think, and a visit to the doctor would be required.

The medicine is specific for worms. Antibiotics do nothing for worms, and some oils do not shift them either. Get the proper stuff.

You would do well if you go through life never having threadworms, they run riot in infant schools! Tape worm are not common, and you may not get any symptoms, but a general wormer will get rid of them too. They sap your body of all nourishment which is why the models used to deliberatly swollow them!

Having just wormed a group of lambs with a drench (medicine down their throats) I am probably well wormed from the slight slick from head to foot from coughing sheep!

Hi Andypandy, I was going to say the same as Serenfach, humans rarely get tapeworm these days but threadworms are easily passed around. Just one word of warning though, I had an allergic reaction that began with violent itching all over, then my mouth and tongue began to swell. The only thing I could put it down to was an Ovex tablet - I've never taken one since so can't be sure, and I've never had the reaction again either. Take care and remember the first of something you are allergic to produces no allergic response, it's subsequent ones that do.

Eat crushed raw garlic to kill eggs and worms. Unfortunately the pinworm eggs float in the air for months. A dehumidifier or a hepa air filter eventually draws them out of the air. Carefully fold up your bedding and wash it every few days for several weeks. (They used to give a ragweed tonic to kill pinworms.) Type in "natural remedies for pinworms" and get a google search engine drop-down explanation of pinworms and how to treat them.
