Please can someone help me? My Aunt's B12 is 200 from a range of 130-900 but her doctor won't give her injections because she's not anaemic. The Dr. is adamant that as my Aunt is not anaemic she's not B12 deficient. Does anyone agree with this please? Thank you in advance. By the way she's 95 years of age and her symptoms are: Giddiness and unsteadiness.
Did your Aunt have Folate and Ferritin levels tested also? Has she ever had Vitamin D tested?
May I suggest that you repeat this post on Pernicious Anemia forum for their expert advice and also add more information - medication and supplements currently taking. Dates of blood tests as well as ranges.
The best people to ask about B12 are the Pernicious Anaemia Society. There is a forum for pernicious anaemia on Healthunlocked. You could post your question there.
The gp didn't offer to give me B12 and mine was 196 close to your aunts and my range starts at 197 so I was actually 1 under the bottom end. Even when the Endocrinologist said I was to ask my GP for an injection due to being vegetarian the GP still won't do it until I am tested to see if I can convert it ok. They don't seem to like to give B12 injections unless you are well under range. Was your aunt not offered any further tests?
