Hello

Have always been bottom of scale for t4 and always had hypothyroid symptoms. For past year ive taken 2 grains of thyroid s and supplements for b12, selenium, folate etc. Feel worse than e er for past 4 weeks.feel like i have a lump at back of throat, joint pain, exhausted and brain fog and cannot lose weight.

Got results from blue horizons with drs comments

Tsh 0.9 ( 0.27-4.2)

T4 12.9 ( 12.0-22.0)

T3 7.5 ( 3.1-6.8

Thyroglo anitbody 26.3 ( 0-115)

Thyroid peroxidase 9.3 (0-34)

Drs comments:

Slight elevation of free t3.in presence of low tsh suggests too much thyroxine in body. As the free thyroxine level is within normal limits it would not surprise me to learn you are taking liothyronine t3 instead of levo is this the case? If you are taking a form of thyroxine medication already you may need to reduce the dose as it seems a overactive thyroid may be developing.

What do i do? Do i need to reduce thyroid s and go on levo as my t4 is so low?

Would be so grateful for any advice.

Hi - being over can make you feel as bad as being under. How long before tests did you take your last dose? If it was as per recommendations, then you are slightly over. You don't need to go on levo, just cut back slightly on your ndt.

When on ndt you don't need to worry about t4 levels, it will be low as your body doesn't need to hold onto it for conversion.

It may be that sometime you will need to change to a different ndt, or maybe add t3, or go to t3 only, but for now try reducing and see what happens.

Good luck

Hi gillian

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to reply. I took ndt 24 hrs before test. The thing is my t4 has only ever just been in bottom of range prior to taking ndt hence why i think i need levo as its only t4.

Hi - t4 is only a storage hormone, the body only uses it to convert to the active t3. So if your body has enough t3 - which yours does - it won't hold on to high levels of t4. When you are taking any form of t3 - and thyroid S includes it - your t4 levels are not important, only the ft3.

So don't worry about that, just cut back slightly on your ndt.
