Help with recent blood test result

Diagnosed hyperthyroidism in April (graves). TSH at that time 0.01. Started Carbimazole 20mg daily. Had blood test a week ago (my first one). The nurse didn't bother taking T3/4 (not sure why?).

TSH was within normal limit 0.67 (0.38 - 5.33).

I asked the nurse practitioner what I need to do with regards to my medication and she told me they don't deal with that and I'll have to wait until I see the consultant. Seeing consultant on 7th August.

My heart rate has improved. I'm still very breathless after exertion, i.e., walking up stairs etc. I still have extreme fatigue and I'm barely coping with every day living.

I'm also vit d deficient, had loading dose for 7 weeks and now on maintenance dose. Also B12 deficient and seeing doctor about this Monday.

Not sure what to do with Carbimazole? Yes the TSH is now in the normal range but it's the lower end of normal.

Hey. I sympathise. I think your at early stages to be expecting a balanced reading. From my experience Carbimazole are not always successful and when you are overactive it's near impossible to control. They always try for ages first but after a while they may offer the other options of killing off thyroid in order to bring you under. Which means they can then top you up with thyroxine meds to balance you over time. It's better for overall health to get balanced as the thyroid affects sooooo much of your body.

Can you push on with consultant? Although Aug isn't far away! But certainly I bet you are feeling horrible!!! There isn't a quick fix but don't be behind door pushing GP! Once you see consultant your on the home run. They are experts and will test and steer you.

Carbimazole is a harsh med. I took severe reaction unfortunately and my hands and feet swollen like baps!!!! This is only reason I skipped queue so fast as at that point I had a goitre and my life was terrible with palpitations, anxiousness and followed by exhaustion due to adrenaline released by the heart. That's pretty much what happens. Try read up as best you can. I remember Sertraline was magic. And B vits for energy. I think they both have part to play in helping the symptoms short term.

Stick in there. You will get sorted.

I would carry on with the carb that was prescribed but I'm not a medical expert.

It's not long until August. Are you booked in for another blood test before you get to see your endo?

You might also find that your endo contacts you with instructions. I had a blood test at my GP surgery after four weeks on 20mcg carb then got a letter from my endo (hadn't seen her at that point) telling me to get more carb and to double the dose until I saw her two months later. I didn't have another blood test in between that one and a week before my appointment by which time I had become very, very hypo.

You are really quite ill, you might not look it on the surface but Graves makes you feel really bad and it takes a long time to get everything back to normal.

I didn't start to feel really good until they added levothyroxine in along with the carbimazole and even then I found I had hyper symptoms whenever I needed an increase in my levo.

I didn't ever feel that it was the carb that was making me feel bad, i knew it was the Graves.

Do you know if you are going to be treated by titration or by block and replace? The endo I saw inmy dirst visit explained about the different methods, said that they used block and replace, the quick method, then went on to say it would take a year for me to get back to normal, so it is a long slow process. Be kind to yourself, get as much rest as you can.

Not what you're looking for?
