Dear all, I have been hypo for 3 years now. On T4 only and 3 stone heavier. Sort of resigned to being overweight and tired etc but now I have something new to worry about! I have had raised inflammation markers for approx 6 months. Also started with indigestion and ended up on PPI's. Long story short yesterday I had endoscopy and colonoscopy. It showed that I have ulcers on my oesophagus. They have doubled my dose of PPI's and said that I may need surgery if the ulcers don't heal. Anyone else experienced this maybe? Xxx
Acid reflux : Dear all, I have been hypo for... - Thyroid UK
Acid reflux
Linked to hypothyroidism.
Can you post your last thyroid tests results, with ranges, as you are probably mighty undermedicated.
Also ask your GP to test B12, Vit D, Folate and Ferritin as these are usually low/ deficient.
When Hypo we usually have LOW acid - NOT high. So when food lies in the stomach it needs good acid levels to break down the proteins before food moves into the duodenum. If acid is low then food remains and begins to ferment - sending fermentation upwards into the oesophagus and could be the possible cause of the ulcers. If not then ask what has caused them ....
PPI's are only meant to be short term - and why suppress stomach acid if you are already LOW. Just a money spinner in most cases. There are natural treatments. If you are on a PC then there are 10 similar posts to yours on the right of this page. If you are on a phone then scroll down AND down to RELATED POSTS where you will see the same thing.
PPI's will suppress the absorption of vitamins and minerals. do you know your levels of B12 - Ferritin - Folate - VitD ?
