Have had more tests done TSH 0.29, (0.27 - 4.20) FT4 20.59, (12.00 - 22.00) T4 112.8, (59.00 - 154.00) FT3 4.31 (3.10 - 6.80 thyroid peroxide antibodies 60.43 (0.00 - 34.00) and previously reverse T3 ratio 11.07 (15.01 - 75.00 A few weeks ago my T4 was 0.2and the do tor says to continue with 125mcgs of T4

I take 125 mcgs t4 and am missing my previous 25mcgs T3 which has been withdrawn. I am thinking of sourcing T3 for myself as no doctor will prescribe it anymore I would be grateful for advice. Ann Simpson

Anne-Simpson,

Adding a little T3 say 6.25mcg - 12.5mcg would raise FT3 higher in range.

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

thank you for your reply. I am ordering some T3 privately so will start on a low dose as you suggest and monitor myself with regular blood tests. I am also keen to go on a 100% gluten free diet which will help as you say, and up my vitamins and minerals to reach optimal levels. Do you think tests every three months, or six months would be a good idea? Ann Simpson

Ann-Simpson,

Tests 6-8 weeks after every dose adjustment. Once you are on a stable dose every 6-12 months is sufficient.

Which tests do I need to have checked each time? Sorry I am so new to all of this. I just used to take the medication given and think nothing of it! Ann Simpson

Ann-Simpson,

TSH, FT4 and FT3. If you are supplementing iron check ferritin every 6 months and if you are supplementing vitD check once or twice a year.
