I'm taking B12 on it's own, but need to replace my rubbish B complex with something better! Does anybody have any recommendations please? I'm wondering if this one would be a good one?

Most appreciated! :)

It contains the most absorbably forms of B12 and folate. I couldn't sleep after taking Solgar B complex and I was told that most B complex products contain B12 as cyanocobalamin and B9 as folic acid. Some people are allegic to them.

Sip, have a look at Metabolics B Complex, no unnecessary ingredients

metabolics.com/b-complex-po...

Two capsules is one serving to give 400mcg methylfolate and gives the correct amount of B6 (10mg). Amounts of B6 over 10mg on a long term basis can cause problems, which is why I don't like those supplements like B100, B50, etc.

There's a liquid version too.

Wow, I had in my notes not to exceed 100mg B6 And my osteoporosis supplement has 75mg per day.

I think that could be the total of all B6 including that which is in food. This is the food list:

"Vitamin B6 Foods

Many foods are good sources of vitamin B6. Some of these include:

Chicken

Turkey

Tuna

Shrimp

Salmon

Beef liver

Milk

Cheese

Lentils

Beans

Bananas

Spinach

Carrots

Brown rice

Sunflower seeds

Bran

Wheat germ

Whole-grain flour"

I'll see if I can find the source of information about how much to take in a supplement and I'll come back and link to it if so can.

Quite possibly worth looking here:

USA's Office of Dietary Supplements B6 factsheets.

Lynneypin From NHS Choices

nhs.uk/Conditions/vitamins-...

"Taking doses of 10-200mg a day for short periods may not cause any harm. But there's not enough evidence to say how long these doses could be taken for safely."

And

"You should be able to get the vitamin B6 you need by eating a varied and balanced diet. If you take vitamin B6 supplements, don't take too much as this could be harmful.

Don't take more than 10mg of vitamin B6 a day in supplements unless advised to by a doctor."

Not my original source but says pretty much the same.

So does that mean the Jarrows supplement has too much B6 in? amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00160...

Jarrow's contains

"Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCl) 25 mg 1250%

Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxal 5-phosphate) 10 mg 500%"

So a total of 35mg.

Some members reacted badly to Jarrow's B Right, so I don't suggest it any more.

SeasideSusie,

Totally agreed - B100, B50, etc. are based on an arithmetic happenstance - not physiology and biochemistry.

Change the units used, and the numbers very likely will no longer even have a passing acquaintance at sense.

Many implicitly acknowledge that by not literally following their own name for some ingredients.

My folate level has increased since taking them so they are helping. I only use Troo or Solgar for supplements now x

Hi sip1 I take this one because it is chewable, delicious and it is a high potency at 5000 micrograms per lozenge. I take a B Complex on the side with it. ch.iherb.com/pr/Jarrow-Form...

Hi.. the best as far as I can see.. which I now take ...is IGENNUS SUPER B COMPLEX WITH FOLATE...IF THIS HAS THE AMOUNTS YOU WANT OF COURSE. You can buy this cheaper than Amazon from BODYKIND..

AN EXCELLENT COMPANY WITH GREAT PRICES AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO .I DONT WORK FOR THEM !

I've been taking Solgar VM 75 for a couple of weeks, it seems good quality and had everything I wanted in one, selenium, B12, zinc and something else (magnesium maybe) plus other things.

Vit D was the other thing in VM 75 that I wanted to increase.
