Altering FT3 level.

Hi

I posted three weeks ago to say my FT3 had decreased even though I had not altered my thyroid meds.

I take 1.5 grains W.P. Thyroid, one grain am. and half grain early evening.

I had been feeling unwell with what felt like a virus and a member thought I may have had a hashi's attack as my TPA antibodies had risen even though they are still in range.

Diogenes replied if I had a non thyroid virus this could have caused my FT3 to drop.

I have just repeated the FT3 and it has come back at 4.4 range 3.1 - 6.8 so it has risen.

I took the test at exactly the same time and fasted as the previous test.

My previous results were,

Bloods taken 12 hours after last NDT dose and fasted.

TSH 1.06 range 0.27 - 4.20

Total T4 47.9 range 59.0 - 154.0

FT4 9.74 range 12.00 - 22.00

FT3 3.58 range 3.10 - 6.80 level was 5.2 range 3.8 - 6.0 in February, 17 hours after NDT

TPO antibodies 95.77 range 0 - 115.00

TPA antibodies 32.02 range 0 - 34 this has risen from 27.5 in August 2015

So in three months FT3 has gone from 5.2 to 3.58 to 4.4

I have increase my NDT by quarter grain two days ago and do not feel any improvement at all, in fact I feel more fatigued.

I also cut gluten out ten days ago.

Should I carry on with quarter grain for longer or increase to half grain now?

Thank you.

Lucylocks,

You wouldn't expect to feel any improvement 2 days after increasing by 1/4 grain. There's plenty of scope to increase FT3 though so you could increase to half grain now.

Clutter as my FT3 has risen from 3.58 to 4.4 on the same dose of NDT, do you think it could continue to rise back to what is was before the virus?

Lucylocks,

I couldn't possibly know. If it did, I think your FT3 should still remain well within range.

Thanks Clutter,

I know, sorry, I asked you an impossible question to answer.

I have felt absolutely exhausted today and feel very down in the dumps so instead of the extra quarter this evening I am going to take half grain.

Do you happen to know if under active thyroid causes a really bloated stomach. I gave gluten up ten days ago do it can't be that causing the bloating.

Lucylocks,

Have you checked that ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate are all good?

It's possible that you are feeling down and exhausted due to gluten withdrawal. If so, it should get better in a few days to a week. I don't know how long bloating goes on after quitting gluten.
