Latest Thyroid Results, FT3 level low.

Hi

I have just got my blood results and my FT3 has fallen really low from my last test and I have not altered my dose.

I take 1.5 grains W.P. Thyroid one grain am. and half grain early evening.

Bloods taken 12 hours after last NDT dose and fasted.

TSH 1.06 range 0.27 - 4.20

Total T4 47.9 range 59.0 - 154.0

FT4 9.74 range 12.00 - 22.00

FT3 3.58 range 3.10 - 6.80 level was 5.2 range 3.8 - 6.0 in February, 17 hours after NDT,

TPO antibodies 95.77 range 0 - 115.00

TPA antibodies 32.02 range 0 - 34 this has risen from 27.5 in August 2015

I have not felt that good all year and two months ago started what seemed like a virus and I could not shake it off, then two weeks ago got another one on top and have felt rotten ever since. Lots of hypo. symptom and feeling down in the dumps and feeling weepy.

When I tried to raise my NDT by a quarter of a grain last year I got palpitations and my highish B.P. went even higher, so I reduced back to 1.5 grains which I have been on ever since.

Now I am wondering if the virus is the reason my FT3 has dropped or is it because my FT3 is so low that I am picking up everything that's going.

This is the lowest my FT3 has been since been diagnosed and was even higher that it is now when I was on levo.

Can anyone please advise what I should do about my meds. try to increase my NDT or add in some T4.

Many thanks.

Lucylocks,

I would try to increase NDT. You could try 1/4 grain increments at weekly or two weekly intervals until you are on 2.5 grains, then hold for 6 weeks and retest.

Do you know what your ferritin level is? Low ferritin/iron can make it difficult to raise thyroid meds without feeling hyper.

Many thanks Clutter,

In February Ferritin was 84. No range was given but it use to be 15 - 300

It did state next to result "Ferritin 20 - 100 cannot exclude iron deficiency with coexisting chronic or inflammatory conditions"

This is the first time this has been written on lab. results

Folate 12.3 <3

Vit B12 627 range 115 - 1000

Vit D 70.1 range 50 -75 states maybe suboptimal as it is seasonal.

I supplement B-Complex, 3000mcg. Vit B12, 3000iu Vit D and 1000mg Vit C.

and since February take Chelated Iron 27 mg once a day with the Vit C.

Lucylocks,

Unless you have coexisting chronic or inflammatory conditions I think ferritin 84 is okay.

I think your supplementing regime is fine.

Thank you,

As I never felt really much better on NDT over levo. (apart from a couple months last summer) do you think a combination of levo and T3 may suit me better?

Lucylocks,

NDT is combination T3+T3 so I don't know whether synthetic T4+T3 will suit you any better. I think you are undermedicated to have FT3 so low in range so it might be better to see how you do on NDT when you are optimally medicated.

Thanks Clutter, do you happen to have any idea why my T3 could have dropped from 5.2 to 3.58 in three months whilst taking the same dose.

Lucylocks,

Your thyroid antibodies rose after you had an autoimmune attack and that will have destroyed more thyroid cells and reduced your thyroid function.

Thank you,

although my antibodies are in range, but very high in range, and they have risen could I have had an autoimmune attack and how would feel if I had one?

Lucylocks,

You must have had an autoimmune attack because your antibodies have risen.

Just looked at your results again and I think 75mcg T4 + 12.5mcg T3 will be fine.

Can you still have autoimmune attack if antibodies are in range and if so could this virus I think I have had for over two weeks be the hashi's attack?

Lucylocks,

If your antibodies have ever been over range it confirms Hashimoto's. If antibodies are within range but are gradually increasing then that is likely to be Hashi's. A fluey virus could certainly be a Hashi attack.

Yes both antibodies have always been in range, but high in range but TPA gone from 27.5 to 32.02 <34 so creeping up

My throat has been very sore but I have also felt as though there is some pressure on it also.

Lucylocks,

An attack would inflame the thyroid gland and make it sore and tender.

Are you gluten-free?

lucylocks profile image
lucylocks in reply to Clutter

No, do you think I should give gluten up if my antibodies are raising?

Lucylocks,

Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.
