Does anyone else suffer with psoriasis? It drives me mad and although sometimes it's an endless problem I can also wake up one day and wonder where and why it's gone. It's usually back in no time. It seems to be much like the Thyroid issue and no one has really got to grips with the problem.

The above link takes you to previous posts on the topic. Hopefully there is one there that is helpful. Are you gluten free ?

I will try gluten free as my daughter has been gluten free for years but she has Psoriasis like me and my late mum had it too. I did once try some hemp ointment which did quieten it down but it smelled musty.

Do you have Hashimotos - ? I agree with the other posters about the health of the gut micro-biome. I was diagnosed with Gut TB and Crohns 44 years ago - so have learnt a few things about the gut :-) I have Hashimotos and a B12 issue .....

I was told ten yrs ago that I had Pituitary Hypothyroidism but now get told that it's rare so I can't have that. I have no trust in my later diagnosis. I first had a blip after the birth of my daughter 40yrs ago but I've been on thyroxine now for about 10yrs. It was 175 micro grams which is now down to 125 ish. I have hiatus hernia but I do know that my B12 was recently tested an is ok. I unknowingly overdosed on 'A' so could that have aggravated it perhaps?

I really must remember to ask my GP if I have Hashimotos but my mind goes blank every time I see him.

OK for B12 is not a result. You are legally entitled to have copies of all test results so you can monitor your own health and post here in an informed way 😊

Make a list of the things you need to ask/discuss with your GP. Sounds to me as if you need to see all your results from when you had your child and they thought it was Central Hypothyroidism. Oh by the way it is not so uncommon.

I need to ask for a print off of my results. Next week! thanks

Why can't you have something rare? Somebody has to have rare conditions. Is it inconvenient for your doctor?

:O

I've had this conversation on here before. The previous surgery was using a locum at the time. I was found to be underactive but after 2 weeks he tested again which he said would reveal whether or not it was the pituitary at fault. 'yes' he said 'it is the pituitary' and now no one is listening. I changed to another surgery and now have no proof somehow! I asked to see an Endocrinologist. He had just graduated and poo pooed the idea as to impress the two female students in his room. It was like I wasn't there!

Hi SewingBee.

There is a link between psoriasis and auto-immune disease although there is a debate about whether it is triggered by an immune response or an abnormal bacterial response. Have you got Hashi's? If so, by following a modified Paleo diet (the Auto Immune Protocol), you can control the symtoms. Here is a link to the Paleo Mom, who has lichen planus, a form of psoriasis, which she has successfully treated with diet and life style changes. Btw I have been following the AIP since last Autumn and feel loads better. It's hard going but I think is worth it and there is lots of information and support online.

Yes. Not severe but on the usual places - elbows, knees, feet, knuckles.

If mine becomes inflamed I will use the steroid gel to dry it out but honestly - none of the products have ever worked for me. It appears and disappears at its own choosing!

On Levo it nearly vanished. NDT didn't improve it at all - even on higher doses. I've just started T3 - only so hoping that this will do the trick and it will vanish again.

My sister had it for five years and it has not been back in ten years. Diet and exercise were the changes she made.

My father has it and believes he knows the cure for his. When he drops below 13 stones it disappears. If he goes above 13 stones it returns. He fasts for 48hrs a week.

**There is a new treatment I heard an advert it on the radio a couple of months ago. I think it is a foam. **

It totally vanished when I was pregnant. Thought about going on the type of "pill" that tricks the body into thinking it's pregnant but never followed it up. GP said it was a coincidence, but I totally disagree.

Thats hormones for you! I had congestion all my childhood and when my son was born it disappeared but returned when I was expecting my daughter but luckily it went once she was born and I've never had it since.

Some say that the cure to skin conditions such as Eczema and Psoriasis starts by changing your gut bacteria and that you can do that by drinking kefir. Here's a youtube video - it is by a producer of goats milk kefir, so that means there is a marketing element to it (I am not affiliated in any way), but nonetheless it does provide a useful starting point if you want to learn more about this approach. youtube.com/watch?v=QqhdlMS...

Thanks for all your comments. I've been using goat products for years because of an upset stomach but it hasn't helped my psoriasis. It did once disappear when I was in Malaysia so I'm assuming the sun or the heat helped it.

As I understand it, it's not about taking goat products, but about consuming the kefir, which is a fermented product. The idea is to drink kefir every day to change your gut biota, and apparently applying it to your skin daily helps too. The kefir doesn't have to be made with goat milk. :)

There was a convincing experiment with kefir and gut biota on Trust Me I'm a Doctor a while ago. I don't think they mentioned skin conditions particularly. bbc.co.uk/programmes/articl...

Being out in the sun in Malaysia may well be the reason it went away then, as your skin would presumably have had lots of UV exposure. UV lamps are used for psoriasis. psoriasis.org/about-psorias... And maybe your diet was different whilst you were in Malaysia too, which could have contributed.

Thanks I will take a look at kefir. Yes I get the UV thing but it's not gone on any other sunny hols so the mildly spiced food may have helped or the isotonic drinks or even the total relaxation. ha ha I must return!!

The author of the video I linked to also has a blog. Might be worth a read kefirise.com/introducing-7-... I'm sure if you put the words kefir and psoriasis into your favourite search engine you'll find plenty more info :)

The sun makes mine worse But I think statistically it improves for most people.

I like the sound of Kefir. Yes I believe it all starts in the gut and key is to sort the gut out. It's all very well and good treating the symptoms but the root cause also important. What triggered it to suddenly start one day? It's a good preventative measure for keeping other autoimmune issues away

Mine went away when I cut out sugar, I don't know if it's the solution but might be worth a shot, or just make a note of what you've been eating and you might see cause and effect. x

I will try that as sugar may not be particularly necessary. thanks!

Did you have it before you started on thyroid meds ? If it started after you might want to change to another brand with less fillers or no color in the thyroid meds. Patients can have allergies to the yellow die or die #5 . Please check it out . I hope it gets resolved . You might try eliminating wheat and dairy and use a good pro biotic dairy free .

The psoriasis started when I was very young so no thyroid probs then. There are no coatings on my meds. I have noticed some problems with wheat and dairy so maybe I should try leaving that out. thanks

Great start . Try a good Pro-Biotic too dairy free . Wishing you much success as you proceed .

I'm sorry Batty1 but I've ben off the site for some years. My psoriasis is mainly on the back of my neck. It gets more noticeable with grey, thinning hair but nothing changes. I understand that there is no cure. It cleared up when on holiday in Turkey but returned once I was home. Theres no telling. It has a mind of its own. I love to swim so salt water and filtered swimming pools may help and keep it damp and the heat and sun also.
