NHS shopping

I expect to be told how naive I am but just have to ask why the NHS does not do what any good housewife does and compare prices before buying. If the best price is in Greece buy in Greece then see what happens to prices in UK.

I have heard of one chap who just does not "hear" when people say "can't be done" I believe he was the moving force behind the Eden project. I know change is scarcey but the NHS has to change its policys. Particularity when not to do so leaves people il and struggling. My GP is of the old school and I have a very short fuse but we are finding a way forward

the main problem is endemic in not only the nhs , but , every government department as well as local councils/authorities ....... they all have their own system of accepted supplier lists , which are extremely difficult to get on to , and they can ONLY use the listed/approved suppliers ---- WHATEVER THE COST --- the possible answer may be to limit the actual profit margins charged by the suppliers for each supply cost ......... or to apply cost into acceptance onto the ''list'' and for that cost to be justified !!!!!

Or just change the sourcing methods?

Having worked in the NHS on and off for 20+ years, the waste of money has always amazed me. They seem to buy the most expensive of everything, envelopes, staplers blah, blah. It is those running the trusts that are responsible for suppliers/budget management I believe. I even worked at one trust who employed (very expensively) the services of a hawk (as in a bird) to get rid of pidgeons - did not work by the way! The government of the day always gets the blame but they give the money and then the trusts decide where it is spent. The trusts certainly have plenty iof managers - it is about time they were more responsible with their budgets and looked around before and when buying services. Makes my blood boil!

I am so glad to hear you say this. Where has all the common sense gone.? Down the "you can't say that" tunnel I suspect

Exactly! I just want the correct people to take responsibility and that is those running the trusts! If I get given money from someone and then I make the decision to waste the money it does not seem right for me and everyone else to then start blaming the person who gave me the money for my recklessness with it :-)

Professional Trustees can find themselves in court for that kind of recklessness
