Hi,

I had a subtotal thyroidectomy about 12yrs ago and have been on thyroxine since. Now need advice regarding fatigue, painful joints, tiredness, brain fog and weight loss. Looking at at buying T3 to see if that would help me feel better. GPs no longer test T3 so don't have a level but really feel I need to do something. Can anyone help please.

Queenie26,

You really need to know FT4 and FT3 levels in addition to TSH to see whether you are optimally medicated on Levothyroxine before you start self medicating. It is also worth checking ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate which are commonly low or deficient in hypothyroid patients causing musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood similar to hypothyroid symptoms.

You can order private tests from thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Just had a full blood test, thought my thyroid was playing up. Turned out to be a vitamin D problem. Some of the symptoms are the same for both things.
