DaTscan™ (Ioflupane I 123 Injection) is a radiopharmaceutical ..this is what i read .just wondered if anyone had this with thyroid nodules as it says can cause thyroid neoplasia. so they will block it hour before the scan ........i have a nodule which is suspected malignant . hope i can get answers x

I've had MRI & CAT scans, & a dye dye injected to highlight my pituitary adenoma. If It's that you're having, it's noisy & not especially pleasant, but nothing to be scared about. You should be given headphones so you can listen to music.

No leverette it is called a datscan.. they give you thyroid block first.. just worried as im having probs with my thyroid just now its not mri or ct scan.. had lots of those you dont go inside tunnel for datscan... the machine moves around you, i looked it up but cant find nothing about thyroid and this stuff they inject into you.. i read its like radiation injected although small amount..?

Thyroid Accumulation: The DaTscan injection may contain up to 6% of free iodide (iodine 123 or I-123). To decrease thyroid accumulation of I-123, block the thyroid gland at least one hour before administration of DaTscan; failure to do so may increase the long-term risk for thyroid neoplasia.... i found this..........Radiation Safety: DaTscan emits radiation and must be handled with safety measures to minimize radiation exposure to clinical personnel and patients.

Ah I think I had something like this nearly 40 years ago ! Much less sophisticated then.

It was like a radioactive dye I had to swallow, I'm sure they don't do it anymore ?

It was for a large goitre which I now know was the start of al my Thyroid problems 😡

I know nothing whatsoever about DaTSCAN and Ioflupane. In trying to find out something, I did manage to find the USA prescribing information (the UK version was not available due to website issues).

Frankly, I am amazed there is no information about handling anyone with thyroid disorders.
