misschris Yes indeed you can, Solgar do a 5000mcg strength version as well as 1000mcg. And with sublingual it doesn't have to be with food as it bypasses the stomach. Usual advice is to take it no later than lunchtime as it can be stimulating so could possibly disturb sleep if taken later in the day.

Thanks SeasideSusie I was just checking. I will look to buy the 5,000 mcg as I only have the 1,000 mcg so I've took five of them 👏🏻👏🏻

Misschris,

Why do you want such a high dose? What is your B12 level?

Hi Clutter my last blood test showed that I was 316 in range, I don't have reference ranges to show.

I have been advised on here to take 5,000 mcg to basically give my b12 a boost.

I am being tested for anemia and what the cause is, as my ferritin is fine but I know my folate, b12 are low and my vid d was severely low and on vit d meds.

Misschris,

My B12 was slightly over 300 and after supplementing 1,000mcg methylcobalamin x 8 weeks it was >700. It won't hurt you to take 5,000mcg but it is a waste of money because excess will be excreted.

If folate is very low you should supplement folic acid or methylfolate for a few months.

Clutter do you know of a good brand of folic acid as the ones I have are from Asda.

If my b12 can be raised by taking 1,000 mcg daily then I will go for that, as it is cheaper to do it that way.

Misschris,

Sorry, I've only had folic acid prescribed and I can't remember what the brand is. What's wrong with Asda folic acid?

Clutter,

I just thought maybe Asda folic acid may not be the best to buy.

When taking B12 we also need a B Complex to balance all the B vits. Thorne Basic B is a good one and contains 400mcg methylfolate which will help raise your folate level.

MissChris,

I've found bog standard supermarket B Complex to be fine too.

Methyfolate is better than the cheap folic acid. I get mine from jarrows B right as it is important to keep the other b vits in check as well. Available from Amazon
