Does anyone else have the same problem? Diabetes nurse wants me to go on insulin but doctor disagrees because he says the blood sugar is coming down slowly 😳
Does anyone else have type 2 diabetes & underac... - Thyroid UK
Does anyone else have type 2 diabetes & underactive thyroid?
Have you changed your diet so you have less sugar spikes?
Have you go your thyroid hormones optimal as per what people post on this site?
The more information you share the more help you will get.
Dabdab, as your question seems to be more about your diabetes, maybe you would get more replies on a diabetes forum? Diabetes plus thyroid is fairly commonplace.
Do you know if you have Hashimoto's- have you have had thyroid antibodies checked?
There are two sorts TPO Ab and TG Ab. (Thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin) Both need checking, if either, or both antibodies are high this means autoimmune thyroid - called Hashimoto's the most common cause in UK of being hypo.
TPO is rarely checked and TG almost never checked. More common to have high TPO or high TPO AND high TG, but negative TPO and raised TG is possible, though rarer.
If you have Hashimoto's then you may find adopting 100% gluten free diet can really help reduce symptoms, and lower antibodies slowly over time too.
ask your GP to check levels of vitamin d, b12, folate and ferritin. These all need to at good (not just average) levels for thyroid hormones (our own or replacement ones) to work in our cells
