Can anyone offer any advise?

I’ve been T1 diabetic for almost 30 years and taking thyroxine 20

I currently take thyroxine in the morning but often my blood sugars are low so I have to eat and drink something straight away which is less than ideal

In this situ I’m overwhelmed and stressed about how best to take the thyroxine - I’ve considered taking it at night but often the same will happen and unfortunately as my husband doesn’t get home till 7.45-8pm we eat rather late 🤦‍♀️

Pls any help

Do you ever get up in the night? Sometimes, if Im up through the night, i take my levo, while Im there.

Or, is it possible that you get up have breakfast, then just drink water all morning, taking levo an hour before lunch?

That’s an idea thank u, my blood sugars are very erratic so sometimes I might have further hypo mid mornings which might not help -

I was always led to believe I should wait an hour after taking Levo - is that right?

I sometimes have a cup of herbal tea - not sure if that is detrimental - I kinda hoped that might help it absorb quicker?

So maybe in a hypo situ in the morning, as a back up plan I don’t take the levo then wait 4 hrs fm eating to take it and then wait an hour?

Are you aware of food’s glycaemic index (GI)? Perhaps lower GI foods will help balance your blood sugar so you can wait an hour after taking your thyroid meds. Is there a medication window 2 hours after breakfast & an hour before you next eat?

thank u, unfortunately if I’m already hypoglycaemic I can’t wait any thing to have anything

It’s frustrating my blood sugars have always been very erratic or what they call brittle - most likely because of the inflammation caused by the AS and perhaps influenced other health issues my ratios of insulin to carbohydrate don’t stay the same minute to minute day to day

Add into that that everything from being happy sad, hot, cold, stressed, walking somewhere not walking somewhere effects them it’s very tricky

I do definitely find lower gi foods help with fluctuations or actually a low carb diet helps

Two hours after eating or an hour before is recommended.

Try a slice of lemon in hot water rather than tea. The increased acidity will help you digest the meds better. I avoid anything else for an hour.
