Following advice, I managed to prize a print out of my blood test results from my reluctant GP. The tests, tested for T4 and TSH only, am I right in thinking they should be testing for T3 as well? Both T4 and TSH were slightly lower than mid range on the normal range scale. Is there a possibility that due to this, my T3 would be within normal range as well, or is it best to get a T3 test done privately say from Blue Horizon for example? Any thoughts would be gratefully received

Twinmommy,
FT3 is rarely tested in primary care unless TSH is suppressed <0.03. FT3 is usually tested to determine hyperthyroidism, not low FT3 in hypothyroid patients. If FT4 is within range it is very likely that FT3 will also be within range but the lower FT4 and TSH are the lower FT3 is likely to be.
Thank you Clutter, very helpful info!
I never ever had my T3 tested even though my endo had it on my blood test request form. They wanted to do radioactive iodine treatment should I relapse (I have Graves Disease) and I couldn't believe they would actually do that without testing my T3 so I ordered my first BH home fingerprick test and I've used them regularly ever since for everything I'd have had to beg and plead to have done - or in e case of vitamin D - not to have had done. I was signed off ages ago but I still kept a check on my results, I use BH 11 and get my vitamins, antibodies etc checked. Definitely the best way for me.
