Dessicated Thyroid : Hi been wanting to try NDT... - Thyroid UK
Dessicated Thyroid
I didn't even get as far as asking my GP. But this might be helpful to you. By chance I came across a private GP who specialised in hormone replacements.
FYI I paid £100 consultation fee, £60 for a blood test and £70 for a 3 month (1 grain) per day prescription that he ordered in. Arrived the next day.
I know people buy online - can understand why; especially when the grains per day creep up.
Your previous posts 3 years ago indicated you needed to lose a great deal of weight. I take it that you have not yet succeeded and now wish to try NDT to see if that will help you?
You are more likely to win the lottery than to get your doctor to give you a prescription for NDT.
It is certainly NOT recommended by anybody, especially by those on forums such as this one, that thyroid medication of any type whatsoever should be used to help weight reduction as it can have a devastating effect on your entire body's metabolism unless the body actually requires it.
Please give more information as to your present state of health including thyroid blood test results.
Yikes Panda, perhaps her body "actually requires it", let her experiment, it worked for me. If I had been overweight for three years I would try anything. The wrong dose of Levo put 30 lbs on me and NDT took most of it off and no part of me was devastated.
Helena has given us no indication that she has any thyroid condition at all. Her previous posts indicated she required a simple but extreme weight loss.
what is NDT? I never heard of it. what is NDT?
MonalisaWilliams,
NDT = Natural Dessicated Thyroid. It is a combination T4+T3 therapy. The T4 and T3 are derived from dessicated pig thyroid but the other ingredients/fillers are synthetic.
NDT isn't licensed for UK use and is rarely prescribed on the NHS. Most members using it have private prescriptions or buy online and self medicated.
Is NDT like the Amour thyroid? I just had surgery to remove a dermoid cyst and my left ovary, I am on 0.125mcg synthroid every morning, and I am gaining weight like crazy. I am eating healthy exercising and nothing seem to be working to get the weight off. the doctors will not listen to what I an telling them.
I am on NDT with a script from a functional GP. My NDT is from a compounding pharmacy and is a private script not supported by government pharmacy scheme. I am doing very well on the current dose of 40mg. It has taken years to get to this stage.
It took a long time to find this doctor and I had to wait 5 months for my first appointment.
I am told there are not many functional doctors in Aus. Not sure about that.
There have to be a few, as there are more compounding pharmacies now.
Compounding is better for me as I am a coeliac and diabetic, and fillers are a problem. I make sure the pharmacist is aware of my needs.
