I take 300mg of magnesium malate in the morning to increase energy and 300mg of magnesium glutamate at night to help sleep. I get it from Amazon. I was told magnesium citrate wasn't the best one to take.

I feel a lot better in the day as in more energy and can focus more when at work but my sleep is still awful. I also have a bowel condition and had 1/3 of my large bowel removed last year. I have to take laxido every day to stop bowel obstruction.

speckles70 The best magnesium to take is the one that suits your particular needs. Have a look at this link which discusses the various forms and what they are useful for

Magnesium citrate is a popular form and can help with constipation.

I use magnesium citrate powder (Natural Calm) and the serving size gives 350mg magnesium although it does say individual needs may vary.

I have good results with magnesium citrate 400 capsules. But each person is different; maybe try slightly different ones and see how you feel?

thanks everyone. I have been taking 300mg of citrate and does suit me but keep seeing different doses so wasn't sure if I was on enough. X

I take chelated magnesium at bedtime. I read this was the most readily absorbed. Citrate is good as a laxative, I think . Perhaps do a googĺe search to come up with a list of different forms of magnesium, then choose what you think will suit you best. Also, go for a respectable brand.

I've just cut down to one tablet, & I'm trying the spray type. The blurb states it's absorbed more effectively through the skin than by digestion. It's not as relaxing as a soak with a kilo of Epsom salts, as the spray prickles, but each day has been less uncomfortable. It can be watered down, to reduce thus effect, but hopefully my overly sensitive skin will become more tolerant.

If you are eating 2 Brazil nuts per day for your Selenium - which is needed as a catalyst for the T4 to T3 conversion - then you are also getting roughly 200 mg of Magnesium.

BUT.... don't double up on the Brazil nuts to reach 400mgs of Magnesium that will overload your Selenium and that's not good, eat some (about 3 ounces) of Cashews pd to get another 292 mg of Mg.

Not what you're looking for?
