Strange blood levels...

As many of you know, I recently had a lobectomy, 6 weeks ago. Well yesterday I had my thyroid levels checked and they were as follows:

I had a protein shake 3 hours prior, but nothing else for 10 hours prior. I didn't know my PCD was going to run labs.

TSH .765 (.5-4.5)

FT3 3.2 (2.0-4.4)

FT4 1.07 (.82-1.77)

Well today I had them redone (ENT)

Fasted for 10 hours

TSH 2.7 (.2-4.5)

FT4 .7 (.6-1.4)

Iron 89 (45- 300)

ferritin 44 (30- 250) still very low

Does this make any sense?????

If your iron and ferritin are low then your doctor should have prescribed iron tablets. Either go back to your doctor and question them on why they have not prescribed them OR post your iron and ferritin in a new thread so people can advise you on self supplementation.

In regards to your thyroid levels they do vary at different times of the day e.g. TSH level is highest first thing in the morning, and lower after you have eaten. Therefore you need to ensure your tests are done on an empty stomach and around 8am-9am in the morning after not taking thyroid medication for 24 hours.

Posted iron/ferritin above. I am not on any thyroid meds yet and I have been taking an iron supplement for months.

What iron supplements are you taking?

And how much elemental iron do they contain?

Also do you have a haemoglobin blood test result from within the last year?

I take a product called Ferrabsorb not sure about the elemental, but my ND gave it to me. I just had my CBC/CMP done and all my blood levels were normal.

There is no such thing as "normal" when it comes to bood test results. "Normal" is an opinion. There is in range and out of range. Even when you are in range your level may high enough for optimal health.

In regards to the iron you are on as I'm in the UK and not heard of that brand you need to get the bottle/container out and read what it says about what kind of iron and the amount of elemental iron it contains. No one can do this for you as you have the container with the information on it.

If your iron level isn't rising and you have been on it for months then it likely doesn't contain a high enough dose of iron, however without you telling me the information I've requested I cannot help you further.

I should add I've a long history of low iron levels including anaemia and have found some supposedly trained people useless in the advice they give out.

TSH .765 (.5-4.5)

TSH 2.7 (.2-4.5)

FT4 1.07 (.82-1.77)

FT4 .7 (.6-1.4)

unless the labs have changed them between times.

It was 2 different labs. Different days. Different doctors.
