Am I right in thinking you cannot get an accurate b12 reading when having injections or supplementing with sub-linguals ?
I have been offered a blue horizon test which basically I had a few weeks ago. The only thing that interested me was active b12 which someone on the chatline reckons is accurate.
Is it me ?😱

I think the latest blue horizon test being offered on PAS includes the active b12 as part of the bundle which means you would get a true reading of your b12 status. I believe that the ordinary b12 test will show high if you are supplementing but not be a true reflection of what you're actually utilising
I think it would be interesting to compare serum b12 to active b12 from the same blood draw
Treepie I do that . I am sure I have seen on here that you don't get an accurate reading of what's at cell level when you are supplementing , Marz perhaps Greygoose .
As I said my reading in August was 2000 ,but if I don't carry on supplementing I will be ill again .
Treepie I was told at surgery a couple of months ago that Active B12 test was not particularly reliable and that Intrinsic Value was better (which they did) I have since had a month's course of ferrous fumarate and awaiting a blood test again.
Hi, actually the better tests to have to see where your B12 is at cellular level methylmalonic acid (MMA) and homocysteine (hcy). Your dr should be able to do these but possibly won't know what they are. Both will be raised if your B12 is low. Aim for hcy under 8- under 6 even better. This test also best marker for those at risk of heart problems , strokes and Alzheimer's FYI. B vits will lower it. Serum is useless once you are supplementing.
