A quick question - can anyone tell me what the BH range is for Active B12?
It would be a separate/different test to the Thyroid Gold Premium which has the Serum B12. I looked but couldn't see it on the BH site.
Cheers.

I don't think you can really expect a proper answer here because BH use multiple labs.
Someone might know the reference interval for one lab - but not for another. If they are not the same, you could misinterpret.
You really have to use the information that came with the results (if you have had a test done with them) or contact BH directly.

Thanks yes I get it - finally - I think😀!
I know they use County Pathology for all their iron and iron related tests because I asked them recently.
But you're right, they could send B12 samples to various labs with of course their own ranges (WHY, WHYYYY????????).
Thanks!
Do you want to get even more confused?
It is not unknown for a lab to use two physical machines and each has its own reference interval(s)! I think that tends to happen at very large hospital labs - or where one named lab operates on two sites. No idea if that ever happens for Active B12.
I'm curious as to why you want to know (I know, I'm nosy!). I know you've been involved with the Inuvi discussions, are you worried they might use Inuvi?
Ha! No, it's not about Inuvi (for once!).
I won't go into much detail because it's a tired and dizzy day today, but I've previously used Medichecks Act. B12 test and wondered if the ranges are the same as I might buy a single BH one. And now I can't remember why! and I can't find the emoji with the head which is blowing up never mind.
🌸😀🌸
I've only ever done BH's Thyroid Premium Gold which has the Total B12 test.
I know that BH has occasionally used The Doctor's Laboratory to process tests (they did with one of mine a few years ago) and TDL's range for Active B12 used to be 25.1-165, whether that's changed I don't know.
BH also use County Pathology, which I think is their main testing company, and their Active B12 range is 37.5-188 when CP do this test for Medichecks. I think CP also do tests for Thriva and Active B12 range is 37.5-188.
Whatever the range it will be appropriate for your result but I get that you probably wont want a different range after all the kerfuffle with Inuvi!
this is something I keep trying to get my head round, difficult when it's just making my head wobble. I do know that apparently only 10% to 30% of total serum B12 is active . Have thought about trying to get an Active B12 test but have been SI so not sure the usual tests would be valid. Did just read some articles about an Active B12 test that isn't MMA , Active B12 Assay testing for holo TC could improve diagnostic accuracy of B12 deficiency
As far as I understand, once you start self injecting your level of B12 will be really high, so both an active (holo tc) and a total serum (both the active and inactive together) B12 test will not tell you anything. But maybe that's what you're already saying! My head is muddled too.😁
