Hi I'm looking for some info as I have just received my kit from blue horizon (finger prick blood draw) I'm a bit worried as you have to fill the yellow top container which I'm apprehensive about as can't imagine I can get as much blood out my finger to fill this !!

Carriebaby Have you completely unpacked everything in the kit? The tube you fill with blood - the microtainer - is quite small, it would only hold about a teaspoonful at the most I'd say. That microtainer (with the yellow lid) is then placed in the larger tube, the one that looks more like a test tube. The larger tube - or holder- is the transport container which keeps the small blood filled microtainer safe from breakage.

Its only a tiny tube within the container

Nevertheless I couldn't fill the tiny tube!! BH very promptly sent me a vacutainer and I managed to get my surgery to get the blood.

First time I tried my blood wouldnt run for some reason but managed to fill tube halfway. The only one they didn't have enough for was TSH. These guys are very clever!

Second time I tried, the blood ran so much I could have filled several tubes and had to mop the floor.

Make sure you're well hydrated and wash hand in warm water. I found it helped to leave the little elastic band on my finger

I had to use two fingers as one gave up fast.Needed someone to hold the tube while i squeezed. Also had to keep warming up the finger.

Clench your fist a few times before piercing finger; it helps the blood flow. It gives this advice on back of leaflet and also when I gave blood they advised me to do this to speed flow.
