My endo suggested selenium for this about 6 weeks ago. I'm taking 200mg every day but haven't had blood tests since so can't tell you whether they are working. Feeling much better though!

I'm on the same selenium dosage...not only do I feel a lot better on it but my thyroid nodules have vanished.

I found this info on this connection through this link

Dr says they don't test for selenium ,so have to look into going private for this .

I just picked it up at Holland and Barrett. I don't think there is a test. 😊

There is a test, but most people are deficient in selenium, so just take some. I would buy it on Amazon, if I were you. The quality is usually better than anything you'll find in the High Street.

I usually get lamberts brand in most vitamins , as they are a good brand , don't want to take it to long in case I take too much .

Selenium is a mineral. They do one at 200 mcg, which is the recommended daily intake. That's what most people take. I think you'll need to take it for quite a while.

What happened when you tried T3?

There's no real knowing why you aren't converting. It could be because of adrenal fatigue - have you had your cortisol tested? It could be because of nutritional deficiencies - have you had your vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin tested? They all need to be optimal - not just in range - for you body to convert T4 to T3. It could be because you have Hashi's - have you had your antibodies tested? Or, it could be a genetic defect - get your DIO2 gene tested. But, if it's that, there's nothing you can do about it, you have to take T3.

But, while you're getting all that tested, you could try taking magnesium, selenium and zinc, because they are all necessary for conversion, too, and don't need testing.

To convert T4 to T3, you need good levels of B12, folate, D3, Ferritin (iron), zinc and selenium. And you must not have the DIO2 gene problem which inhibits conversion.

Brazil nuts contain selenium. How did your gp discover you wasn't converting, blood test or symtoms or both.

Thinking that's why I am gaining weight as I walk most days and my diet is fairly good ,trying to lose weight so thinking that's why as can't up my Levothyroxine as it makes me ill ,just got results so T3 is 3.8 and range is 3.1-6.8

Brazil nuts only contain selenium if they've been grown in selenium rich soil. You wouldn't know about that unless it says on the packaging. Supplementing is a much better way of knowing how much you're getting.

Agree it's better to take selenium then I know that I am taking the correct amount .
