Magnesium and thyroid?

Still in the midst of finding my balance with medication. Trying to tackle whatever nutritional deficiencies I might have. Upped my B12 , Vit D, and B complex. Last night I took Magnesium powder before bed and woke up 4 hrs later with a full blown panic attack. Magnesium is used to treat anxiety usually so that doesn't make sense. Have upped my T4 only slightly . Could it be that my body is that sensitive to it. It was scary. I have coffee in the morning an hour or two after taking meds . Could that be doing something ?

How much did you take? Might be coincidence, or too much to start with

I started very very slowly, with just 1/4 teaspoon once a day, about an hour before bed. Increased very slowly over next two months up to to 1/4 teaspoon 4 x day, then slowly up to 4 x 1/2 teaspoon etc. Initially it did go in with a "woosh", but mainly just made me feel relaxed.

I now take 2 teaspoons daily - no apparent affects at all.....but that is because I am now use to it. 2 measured teaspoons equals 350mcg magnesium citrate daily.

I take Calm Vitality magnesium powder ( self supplemented but my gastroenterologist approves - I have gluten intolerance - just finally officially diagnosed)

Vit d supplements - I found difficult to absorb tablets, but now doing much better on oral vitamin D spray DLux by Better You

Thanks. I started with 1/2 teaspoon. I will try cutting it down. I've heard nothing but good things about magnesium so I I hate to give up on it. I live by myself so when anything goes wrong, I panic!

Taking almost anything close to bed time can cause the brain to react in all sorts of ways, although the most common is vivid dreaming. We get the same reactions during the day time, but being awake, and distracted by what is going on around us, we don't notice them so much. For that reason, I try and take all my medications before 5 pm. I take my magnesium after breakfast.

Initially I spread the dose out through the day. 4 small doses (Didn't realise to start with that it should also be four hours away from taking Levo)

I take my Levo at bedtime (11pm)

So I then changed to 3 x day - last one about 6pm

I now take just twice daily - just before lunch and before dinner. I think, for me the increased acidity also helps improve stomach acid and digestion. I was taking it after eating, but before seems slightly better. It's all trial and error 😃
