my GP, after a blood test said I was low on vitamin D, (yet to collect a copy), I just wondered if anyone else has been prescribed these and how they got on with them. the dose seems a bit high? is a 12 week course.

thanks in advance.

I had Fultium 800 which was too much for me but I have a problem with supplements so that's just me. You might want to start with a low dose to see how you go, ideally you should have your calcium checked first.

thanks for your advice, I did think it a high dose but I usually get on ok with supplements so fingers crossed.

My GP phoned me the day after blood tests saying my vitamin D level was really low 19 & he had sent a prescription for Fulitum D3 800 to chemist for me. I have to take 5 a day for 10 wks then 1 a day after the 10 wks. I can't remember what he said about my calcium levels but he did tell me it couldn't be repeated for 12 wks but my Vitamin D was to be repeated in 4 wks. I didn't know he was testing vitamin D & calcium levels I presumed he was just doing my usual blood tests & can't say I felt any different.

I think that may be about right, if not a bit low, depending on your results. Mine was 17.5nmol/l and I was prescribed 40,000 IU per week.

Have a read of the VitaminD Council webpage - that's got lots of great information on it. vitamindcouncil.org

I was put on these about 2 years ago, but made me feel very nauseous, and my skin tingled.

I agree with Bantam, get calcium checked, as this was the start of being diagnosed hyperparathyroid, after a lot of messing around, finally had surgery to remove a large adenoma two months ago.

It's quite a low dose if you are deficient enough for the NHS to notice. Like most of the vitamins anf minerals the NHS prescribe they are not particularly good quality and contain fillers and artificial colouring. Not veggie because of gelatin, if that's an issue. At least they are in oil and not a tablet.

Maize oil, refined

Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) (E321)

Capsule shell

Glycerol (E422)

Purified Water

Brilliant Blue W.S (E133)

Gelatin (E441)
