Tsh down after NDT therapy. T4 slightly better. T3 unchanged.

Hello there. I am in Canada, so I take NDT by prescription. I am hypothyroid, but it seems that the cause is pituitary. I have an MRI finally in a few days. Because of this I have many more hormonal issues then just thyroid. Prior to starting the NDT I had to get iron iv x6 weeks, bring up my b12, etc. My question however is my t4 has come up slightly, from very low to just over the low normal Mark . T3 has not changed, and my tsh which was low normal to start, has gone down. This after several months of natural desiccated thyroid. I would love any input about this. Thank you.

Daisylain,

You previously posted of low iron, Vit B12 and Vit D, all of which can take many months to become optimal, even with supplementing//injections, etc. & for some people,, their thyroid meds may not work well until deficiencies are optimal.

You also posted about cortisol issues and NDT can be very intolerant of high//low cortisol..

It is usual for the TSH to lower when medicating T3 (found within NDT) as the pituitary senses thyroid hormone in the blood stream and switches off.

Post any results complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) for members to comment, and also the amount of NDT you are medicating.

Have you had folate tested ? ? ...

As radd says, anything containing T3 will cause your TSH levels to plummet, so the TSH result should be ignored. What you are looking for is healthy levels of T4 and T3. It sounds as though you need a higher dose of NDT.

Doesn't ndt cause low T4 levels in most people? Mine are dropping and I'm reading many people have low T4 on ndt . Though I cannot find an explanation anywhere as to why this is .
