Switch from NDT to T3 or T4/T3

Hi all,

I have been on NDT for a few years now - mainly on Thyroid S (then Nature Thyroid). I felt brilliant on Thyroid S, and not as good but ok on Nature Thyroid. However, with neither of these currently available, I have had to switch NDT brands and I am seeing a return of bad thyroid symptoms. Due to the unavailability, and expense of NDT, I am considering switching over to either T3 only or T4/T3 however I have not tried these options before. Does any have any advice as to whether T3 only or T4/T3 is better? In addition if someone could private message me with any recommendations on which T3 brands are best/ where to buy that would be a great help.

Thanks so much,

Charlotte

I recently experimented with NDT, after being on T4 only for ten years, and after not finding a dose to get me stable and three recalls with NP Thyroid and Nature-throid I determined I can't trust the future of these products. I need stability and accessibility for the next 10-30 years not just momentarily. So back to T4 meds, which is rough. Synthetic T3 felt nothing like the T3 in NDT. If only they could isolate the T3 in NDT and put them in capsules. Sorry, I can't recommend any T3 brands as I'm here in the US and struggling with finding one that's reliable.

You can use 1/4 grain NDT on top of your levo to get the T3 in NDT rather than cytomel/synthetic.

I tried that and it made me feel dizzy and nauseated!

Same. I prefer cytomel over NDT so much more.

I prefer the T3 in NDT over the synthetic but I think there was something wrong with the generic T3 I filled. Today I decided to transfer my prescription to another pharmacy since the carry a different generic made by a different company

What's the difference between synthetic T3 and non synthetic- with respect to side effects?

Thanks

I use Sigma Pharma brand for generic T3, along with Levoxyl. Not all brands have the same ingredients or act the same for everybody.

For the Levoxyl, I order the 50mcg since it does not have any dyes in that strength. I simply double up, cut in half, etc to get to my targeted dose.

I have had to switch to bovine ndt ( ThyroGold) . I don’t want T3 only as I have been hypothyroid for over sixty years. I do seem well with some T4. Do you not tolerate ndt enough to try the bovine?

It’s levo only is a no no for me and having been at my best on ndt can’t find any reason to go just T3.

I think if your results show rock bottom T3 on and you are unwell on ndt/ cannot take levo then T3 only may be the way to go. If you are ok with levo and have some conversion then combined will at least get nhs levo. I certainly now need some T3 added but am totally unable to source any.

Good luck
