It also depends on your family genetics what is "good" for you. The last information I saw was to get your fasting blood glucose consistently down to 4.30 or below. However the HbA1C test was advocated as it tracks your glucose level over months.

Anyway the "diet" is advised for EVERYONE. This means that families can all eat together. Most people are eating too many refined carbs so instead everyone is advised to cut out not only food with sugar in them but bread, pasta, breakfast cereals etc.

Unfortunately Western governments in the UK, US etc and their agencies like the NHS don't see it like that as they have to protect the food and farming industries. So they promote the low fat high carb way of eating.

It is believed that changing to this way of eating decreases your risk of getting heart attacks and strokes as well as diabetes. So while type 2 diabetics are using it to control their sugar levels and get of medication, it is advocated that everyone should follow it for their heart health.

Proponents of this way of eating aren't all quacks they include some NHS GPs, scientific researchers, dietitians who trained in the NHS but went private when they couldn't promote the diet and professors in medicine and sports science. Most famous UK advocate of this diet is Professor Taylor of Newcastle University.
