I think it is when you eat normally for 5 days of the week, but eat significantly less (known as fast days) on 2 non-consecutive days of the week. I think the idea behind it is that it helps to maintain a diet for longer because you can eat normally for 5 days a week and so this can apparently help with maintaining it in the long term - and by eating less on two days of the week the body can start to recognise it is full having eaten less. However I'd imagine you'd have to be careful on it as it seems like it could be easy to start overeating on the 5 days a week when you aren't 'fasting'. I've never tried the diet before so can't say how affective it has been for me or anything but I've seen quite a few articles on it. sorry if this isn't much help
Thanks for your response, seems logical to me. Maybe someone who has been on it might be able to tell me what I should use on those 2 fasting days.I am not very good at fasting
Hi, I've tried EVERY diet there is out there, and I'm having the most profound success with Paleo. Its basically what is recommended by all the thyroid experts like Mary Shomon, Dr Isabella Wentz, Sean Croxton, Dr Mark Hyman, Dr David Brownstein, Dr Suzy Cohen etc. They all have books and websites that detail basic and advanced dietary plans for hypothyroidism. There are certain foods to cut down or avoid (goitrograns mostly), and other foods that are super foods for the thyroid e.g brazil nuts, sea vegetables, fats, eggs etc. Diets that include fasting might not be the best option for people with thyroid problems, as they stress the adrenals and mess with blood sugar levels, which will all have a negative effect on the functioning of the thyroid. I gained weight doing the "eat on five: diet on two" days, and only when I changed the ratio, and dieted on four days and ate on three, did I shed weight, and even then, only small amounts and slowly.
just type 5:2 diet into your search engine you'll find loads on it there am afraid it didn't work for me so am now trying the no carbs after 5pm
