Hi guys I've finally got my appointment through to see an Endo, has anyone been to see a Dr Sharma in Liverpool, and if so should I go equipped with anything it's not till October mind, that's if in the meantime I haven't overdosed on my huge selection of vitamins and me self medicating T3.
Dr Sharma.: Hi guys I've finally got my... - Thyroid UK
Dr Sharma.
I went to see Dr Ahmad in 2011 and he is a colleague of Dr Sharma. They all joined together to form MedExcell so I am guessing they may possible all in agreement on their views. I would say to you, do your preparation - when I went I waited for 6 months to get an appointment with Dr Ahmad and he wasn't there so I delayed it and returned a few weeks later. At the second appointment he was busy and I had to see his registrar who was a young woman who had a really bad manner. She wrote my GP a really damning letter, who laughed it off and said that I was the least depressed person she had ever met (I love my GP she is wonderful). Anyway I demanded to see Dr Ahmad after waiting nearly 10 months to see him and he just fobbed me off without really looking properly at my blood results - T3 had never been tested.
So, try your hardest to get as many blood results done before October and ask for ferritin (I never had this done and it turned out that it was only 6 instead of 70 which is what research says you need for optimal conversion from T4 to T3). Take good science-based research with you and plan what you are going to say in advance!! Dr Westin Childs has a good chart on what labs you should ideally request - although he is in the US so we cannot always get them.
You can learn more about him here - it may well help!

Good luck!
Hi Costalita
Thankyou for your reply if it's not bad enough to have to wait 6 months for a appointment (me too) then to get messed around like that how rude you must have been furious,I'm not expecting much from this appointment to be honest I'm self medicating anyway I just would like some supervision.
I was, I wrote a scathing letter but never sent it!!! I vented my anger though - I just didn't want to penalise myself in the future, endocrinology is a small world in the UK and I can't afford to fall out with them!
I think as you are self medicating you will need to make sure you are clear why you are doing so and show that you have done your homework - Dr Ahmad flat out refused to even entertain letting me have T3 - but it was 2011! A lot more research has been done since then.
I am sure Prof Sharma is very nice, I have never heard any bad things about him - I think my mum went to him for pancreas/diabetes at some point.
Thankyou Costalita, I won't hold my breath tho, even if he just gives me some guidance that would be a massive help, I think I'm doing OK on 100 levo an 56.25 T3 I have really good days and the odd bad one I just need him to say that's OK really but I'll just have to wait and see.
