how is Armour Thyroid working these days...?

I have a question to those of you on Armour Thyroid: does it seem to be working better now, or more or less the same...?

There have been so many conflicting rumours since Actavis bought Forest...some claim Armour ended up even worse than after the unappreciated 2009 reformulation, while others claim it's actually working better now...

I have been on Thyroid-S for the past year and really like it; however, I have been considering giving Armour another try (I am seeing my doctor in early August and will then get a new prescription...my doc is in Belgium and that is where I buy all my meds)...I did try Erfa for a while but did not like it...only Erfa and Armour are available in some Belgian pharmacy.

My only concern is that Thyroid-S contains so many fillers...including dye and aluminium which may not be a problem, but I cannot for the life of me understand why you'd need +/-20 fillers in such a tiny pill...

The other Thai brand, Thiroyd, has much less fillers - that might be worth considering. I've not used Armour so can't comment on that.

I have been on natural hormone now for 6 weeks up to 3 1/2 grain eyes watering still feel tired even though I do sleep during the night. NOt sure if it working or not. Feel horrible Was on lethyroxine for 2 years felt great. Then the meds just stopped working altogether . Have been under a lot o f stress the past month Doctor thinks that's the cause. So now what ? Horrible disease !! UG ! The only thing l look forward to is going to bed and sleep .

Is it possible that you raised NDT too quickly? How did you start taking it? It's usually recommended that you decrease thyroxine and add a little NDT at a time; many recommend you start by adding 30 mg, while decreasing thyroxine by 50 mcg, and then add another 30 mg after ten days or so, while continuing to decrease thyroxine, until you've weaned off thyroxine completely. Then, you'd still need to find your optimal dose of NDT.

The reason why it's recommended to start low and go slow is because NDT contains T3 which is a fast-acting thyroid hormone about four times as potent as T4 (which is a storage hormone basically intended to be converted to T3 by the body).

If you have been under a lot of stress lately, it's possible that your adrenals are tired and not producing enough cortisol. Cortisol is needed in order for thyroid hormones to make it into the cells.

How much levothyroxine did you use to be on?

Although NDT is often described as a miracle drug, I know many who do not do well on it, and who need either to go back on T4, combine T4 with synthetic T3, or take T3 only.

Do you have Hashimoto's disease (autoimmune)? It seems some people with Hashimoto's cannot take NDT as natural thyroid hormone will cause the immune system to intensify its attacks on the thyroid gland. These people do better on synthetic thyroid drugs (either T4, a combination of T3 and T4, or T3 alone).

no Hashimotos disease that l know of. I was on 150 lethyroxine . The doctor started me on natural thyroid starting at 60 mg i was feeling worse in three weeks .so he upped it 30. Helped a bit ,so i upped it in two more weeks . Who really knows l just want my life back !!

I will ask my doctor my next appointment I thought if it was adrenal problem I wouldn't be able to sleep ? I sleep well at night ,

If you are producing too much cortisol and adrenalin, yes, but if you have low cortisol levels, you will usually feel tired. Usually, adrenal fatigue starts as overactive adrenal glands that eventually get tired and produce suboptimal levels of cortisol.

I can only speak for myself, but when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I was already suffering from adrenal fatigue, although my doctor at the time did not have a clue...
