Thyroid S versus ERFA versus Armour thyroid

Buttercupsareyellow profile image

I have been prescribed ERFA and it seems to be suiting me. I have been looking at sourcing myself as an alternative and notice many of the sites have Thyoid S or armour thyroid instead.

How have people got on with the different brands? Are they much the same or does any particular one tend to suit better (I am aware this can be personal to individuals)

Any thoughts would welcome 😊

Everyone has different preferences as they react differently to them even when they have the same ratio of T4 to T3. This is likely to be down to the different fillers and the way the tablet is compounded. I got on really well with Acella NP but in the last three months have had to move across to Armour and for me its not the same. Acella got banned by the nhs as it had a wide variation in the potency in recent years. I did notice that I had to tweak up and down which is unusual for me as am very stable and only normally tweak for extreme weather. I personally didnt get on with Erfa after they changed factories but if its suiting you Id stick with it -we are all different. I dont have any experience of Thyroid S but many people like it. I get my ndt on the nhs and they now only give an option of Armour or Erfa so Thyroid S is not listed on their pharmaceutical list..

Thank you 😊 I am having to source either privately or online as my NHS won’t provide 🙄ERFA seems a lot more expensive online. I am getting at a reasonable price by private prescription, but obviously have to pay for the prescription to be written. At the moment there is lots of dose tweaking and it’s been helpful to discuss with endo so I don’t mind. The tablets do come in 100 pots and I think once settled on dose the maintenance prescription writing cost isn’t too high so I’m tempted to not rock the boat…..

That seems sensible. Once you are sorted you can take it up with your GP. I am sure ure current doctor will be happy to support you. I paid for mine for three years....before I managed to get it on NHS. Its so wrong that we have to fight so hard for essential medicines....lol.

With every ndt which I tried, I needed a levo addition but Nature-Troid was the best( old formula). Now I take Thyroid-S +levo and it's ok.
