Sudden severe heat sensation during night.

Hi

After been on levothyroxine and not feeling much improvement from it I decided to try NDT. and to be honest I have not found it a lot better.

I have been taking W.P. Thyroid for four months now and have increased slowly but then had to decrease a couple of time as I got a spaced out feeling.

I rose to 2 grains W.P. Thyroid ten days ago after been on 1 3/4 grains for ten days.

Last week I felt O.K ish but yesterday evening began to feel an itchy tingly feeling on my arms and chest and head, I also felt generally achey and my legs felt heavy.

During the night I woke up with the same itchy tingly feeling but just around my pubic bone area. I then suddenly felt a severe heat sensation throughout my entire body. It felt as if every part of my body was on fire. At first I thought it maybe a temperature, thinking I may have a bug because of feeling achy, but it was a different sensation to a temperature

The feeling on the pubic bone was very similar to what I sometimes use to get when my period was due, but the heat sensation I have never had it like this before.

I felt on fire from head to toe, it lasted what seemed ages but I suppose it was a few minutes, then I must have fallen asleep.

Yesterday I went to empty my bowels twice and was quite loose and I have been a little loose this morning, I also feel very nauseous and down in the dumps.

I have just looked back in my diary and I had a really down day after raising from 1 1/2 to

1 3/4 grains, after nine days, so nearly the same time frame.

I took my temperature just before lunch and it was 97.1, it has been around 36.4 previously.

I did not take my NDT this morning thinking I may be taking too much, but then decided to take just 1/2 grain before lunch. The itching and pricking has now come on a little again.

I have a had a family argument over the weekend which has upset me very much and my husband thinks this has caused my symptoms, but I do not think this would have caused the severe heated feeling. I do not know if it as a virus/bug or am I in fact overmedicated, and I am not sure what to do about my NDT dose.

Two months ago I had bloods taken and posted this below with the results.

When I had been on 1 1/2 grains of NDT for three weeks then reduced to 1 1/4 grains for a week (reduced because of spaced out feeling)

I had bloods done and NHS results were,

TSH 2.8 range 0.35 - 4.7

T4 7.4 range 7.8 - 21

T3 5.3 range 3.8 - 6.0

Ferritin 103 range 15 - 300

Vitamin D 78.5 range 75 - 100

Obviously my levels will be different now, but when I posted last time a member said my T3 looked worrying, did they mean possibly Reverse T3.

I am going to order tests including RT3. Would it be O.K. to do them now as I have only been taking 2 grains for ten days, plus I reduced my dose today.

I go on holiday on Saturday and I do not know whether to stay on 2 grains or reduce my dose whilst waiting for results.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you

2 grains are around 200mcg of levo, so maybe it is a little too much for you.

The fact that your temp rose to 97, suggests you are overdosing.

If I were you, and am not medically qualified, I'd drop down to 1 grain and hold that for four weeks, taking your pulse/temp several times a day and make a record. If you feel fine 1 gr might be all you need.

Also as WP is hypo-allergenic it shouldn't be causing you problems, except if dose was too low or too high.

Many thanks shaws for replying,

Before starting NDT I was taking 125 mcg. levo. and felt O.K. not brilliant but O.K. G.P. reduce to 100mcg. because of low TSH, this is when I decided to try NDT.

Now you know I was on 125mcg. levo. previously do you think a reduction from 2 grains to 1 grain would be too big a reduction.

You can drop down gradually if you prefer. :)

1 gr is around 100mcg levo for most people, so maybe if you don't want to reduce go to 1.5 gr (around your dose of levo). Keeping in mind I'm not medically qualified but have been on the roundabout with different variety of hormones but am now settled on my dose of T3.

I have also taken too much of hormones at times and sometimes it's difficult to decide whether 'too much or too little' and a 'small adjustment' can at times make a remarkable difference.
