Dosage confusion

Hi I started NDT 4 days ago so took my last dose 100mcg Levo on Sunday night then started self medicating on Monday Nature Throid 65mg 1 grain which contains 9mcg T3 & 38mcg T4 I started to feel my throat a bit tight last night which has subsided this morning so have taken my first dose which is half the tablet and due second dose in six hours. Am I over medicating as I can't work out the different mg and mcg as both is listed on the bottle 😬

You are probably a little under medicated but T3 should be introduced gradually which is why it is advisable to start at 1 grain. 9mcg T3 is equivalent to 27mcg T4. 27mcg + 38mcg = 65mcg.

So do you think the tight felling in my throat last night was just a reaction to getting T3 ? I have been told to wait 2 was then introduce another half grain would this be correct as I think my T3 was on the low side on Levo

Carriebaby,

People do experience some adverse reactions when they first change meds but the tight feeling may not be anything to do with T3 or NDT as it is fine this morning. Usual advice is to increase dose in 1/2 grain increments at 2 week intervals, hold at 2 grains for 6-8 weeks and have a FT3 test before increasing further.

Do you think I would need to go Ip to 2 grains ? I was only on 100mcg Levo although I was told on here that my T3 was on the low side!!

And my temp is low with weight gain etc,.

I used to get a tightness when I was over medicated with Levo but maybe it's nothing to worry about as I'm fine today 😩

Carriebaby,

You won't need to go to 2 grains if you feel well on 1 or 1.5 grains. See how you feel in a few weeks.
