In a flap ....

Just got back from midwife who had my blood results after upping Levo from 100 to 150 and my results were this tsh -0.16 t4 20.2 is this a sign of being over medicated? I'm only just scraping the first trimester goalposts and an yet to be seen by endocrine specialist. I have a urgent appt at the doctors at 9 am to discuss which as which as everyone knows could be a total waste of time with GP. They haven't tested t3. I am wondering if the jump to 150 was too much too soon as my tsh 4 weeks earlier pre pregnancy was .19 and t4 was 16 I am wondering if I should be in 125 or maybe even lower? Not been symptomatic of hyper. Felt quite well?

It would greatly help if you put the ranges. But, even so, low TSH is not, of itself, a sign that you are over-medicated. Only an over-range FT3 would show that. The TSH is irrelevant, once it's low. If I were you, I would resist all attempts to reduce your dose due to the TSH, I would want my FT3 tested.

Having said that, going up by 50 was a bit much. Increases should be by 25 mcg, no more.

She didn't tell me the ranges she just said I was scraping the first trimester goals, (i should have asked about the ranges 🙄) I agree, I think I should have gone up in 25 increments. She also sad apparently hcg pregnancy hormones stimulates thyroid and this can be a temporary spike. I'm hoping when I finally get my appt with endo consultant they will be more In depth with this. J was wondering if maybe it was a conversion issue. this is so worrying if the doctor I see tomoro is like the rest 😟

A TSH test won't tell you if you have a conversion issue. For that, you'd need your FT4 and FT3 tested at the same time.

When you talk to the doctor, Don't just take his word for anything. Question, question, question. You want to know all the ins and outs. But I honestly Don't think a low TSH is any danger to your pregnancy. Did the nurse say it was?

she said it as an abnormal result yes. But I don't know what their lab ranges are. I've found a document I want to post in here I've screen shotted in going to try to upload of you wouldn't mind talking a look

Well, I Don't know what she means by 'abnormal'. The TSH is low, that's all. Lots of people have low/suppressed TSH when they are on thyroid hormone replacement. But you really can't tell much without an FT3 test.

No, they Don't on the NHS, because they Don't understand the importance of it. A lot of people have to get theirs done privately.

I posted the only official looking ranges I could find, under a new post x

No, an 'official looking' range isn't good enough. You need the range used by the lab the test was done in for FT4. The range doesn't matter for the TSH - high is always high and low is always low. But it's important for the Frees.

50 mcg was a bit much but I wouldn't worry. The recommendation to increase by 25 to 50 mcg assumes you have a TSH around 1 or 2 whereas yours was pretty low. I'd go down to 125 mcg and see how you feel. If you keep your TSH too low for a long time it can down-regulate the pituitary which means your TSH will tend to be lower than it should be and consequently may affect your T4 to T3 conversion. So don't have a low TSH unless you need it.
