I was Dx with a over active thyroid 10th September 2015. I eventually got to see a consultant on the 14th May. He did write to me in Oct 2015 saying really busy in clinic take these tablets cambrozole (something similar I can't remember sorry) and I will see you in clinic.
The tables didn't agree with me and made my bowels bleed for 5 weeks so I stopped them Dec 2015. End of April 2016 he sent me a prescription for Propylthiouracil which I took for 2 wks they were making me go to the toilet every hr I told him at my appointment that they were making me poorly he said its not the tablets it's your thyroid it make you get diarrhoea. I explained that it's not my thyroid as I have had this left untreated for 9 mnths I have not been going to the toilet for 9 mnths. ( I have Endometriosis it's on my bowel I go to the toilet once a week if I am having a good week ) he told me to increase the dose from 2 tablets twice a day to 4 tablets twice a day and then increase again. I increased for 4 days and was horrifically ill. I was convinced there must be lactose in the tablets as the symptoms were identical. I have a Lactose allergy. There wasn't any information with the tablets but I went online and they say if you have a Lactose allergy do not take.
To cut a long story short, the consultant insists the lactose can't be making me this ill and regardless of how ill I am I must still take them. My Dr doesn't know if there is any lactose free treatments available and neither dose my pharmist, my Dr agrees that I should still take them and use anti diarrhoea tablets. I assured her if I take 8 tablets a day I may be luckyenough to absorb one tablet into my system b4 my body violently rejectsthe tablets.
I really need your help advise suggestions. I am new to this thyroid problem. even though I have had it for 9 mnths I have stupidly allowed the Dr's to mess me about and not even try to educate myself regarding this issue. Any help would be extremely useful and I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance. Xx
