If your Vit D is low, are you supplementing? What was the actual result?
Sorry, I can't comment on your thyroid test results as I'm not au fait with how results should look when on NDT.
It was very low so am supplimenting 4000IU a day. Joints are improving though, just those damn knees.
Total Vitamin D :
Status: 24.3 nmol/L DEFICIENT
Interpretive Guide:
(25-hydroxyvitamin D3 : 21.5 nmol/L, 25-hydroxyvitamin D 2 : 2.8 nmol/L)
Obviously I need some supplementation as it is well below 50 nmol/L so i take 4000IU a day
I think given it is so low you could supplement higher, 10,000 a day.Unless you are exposing lots of akin at midday, without burning, in the sun. You make 20,000 Iu a day doing this, so long as you don't shower after (!!)
Thanks Aspmama. That was 2 months ago.
Should i take 10,000IU for how long? A Month?
Also take VitK2 to direct improved levels of calcium to the bones and teeth. Not good to leave it in the arterial system
Sorry for the late reply. One study quoted on vitamind3uk.com, which is run by the very expert Oliver Gillie, found it took six months at 4000iu to get subjects up to 44ng .. Try a month at 10,000iu and ask for another test. Then don't forget to take a maintenance dose, unless you are getting out a lot in midday sun. And in sept in the uk you can hardly make d3 in the skin, and that's true for the next six months, so we all need to supplement over winter here. Unless we eat v high amounts of fish and meat perhaps.
Thanks Aspmama!
Still dont know whether to up my dose of thyroid or not?
Cheers
I'm not an expert on results, but if you up your dose of ndt your tsh is going to go under the range I think, so if there is a gp involved they will be alarmed.
It's interesting that the t4 is so low in the range.. maybe wait till you get your d levels nice and high, and see what symptoms you are left with then. You might find you feel fine on the current dose.
If u see what I mean.
