What do you suggest they replace the amalgam with? The porcelain alternatives contain synthetic oestrogen and when I had some replaced privately they just fell out really quickly all the time.

I too have a mouthful of mercury fillings, and it worries me very much. Especially as I am a tooth grinder! I have bitten through mouth guards intended to stop me grinding my teeth. How much Mercury have I swallowed over the years?

I have underactive thyroid, pernicious anaemia, fibromyalgia, plus many other autoimmune illnesses. Are they due to the Mercury I wonder?

Twitchytoes, I had no idea about the oestrogen but have checked it out with Graeme who says:

"Porcelain does not contain the oestrogen releasing stuff but the cement that holds it in might. Alternatives are available the best are made in the laboratory where they are preshrunk and all chemicals are removed. Again the cement is the key. We use the same material for the lab made ones as in the cement. Very hard to source these materials by the way, mine comes from Brasil!

Just got to ask the dentist and check the data on the web to see what it contains

."

He doesn't mention the fillings falling out but none of mine ever have, although I do know they are more prone to it.

MariLiz, I think if I were in your (tooth-grinding!) position I'd want to get my mercury levels checked out.  Although I had a mouth full of it, I was told that in fact it was all the infection (from root-filled teeth) that was causing my problems, more than the mercury, although my levels were high.  And if the mercury isn't removed under the correct procedure it can cause more problems than leaving it in.
