Hi, I'm on 150 level but have loads of other ailments including high blood pressure which is treated. I'm wondering is it safe for me to try Thyroid S.

Gracie,
I think it should be fine as long as you make sure your FT3 remains within range. If your GP won't test FT3 you can order private thyroid tests from Blue Horizon and Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
1 grain (60-65mg) NDT is roughly equivalent to 75mcg Levothyroxine. You could halve your Levothyroxine dose and introduce 1 grain NDT. 2 weeks later reduce Levothyroxine by half again and increase NDT to 1.5 grains. 2 weeks later stop Levothyroxine and increase NDT to 2 grains. Hold at 2 grains for 6 weeks and have a thyroid test, including FT3, before increasing further.

Thank you clutter, I will do w hat you suggested.
I stopped my thyroxine for 2 weeks before starting a 1/4 tablet of NDT. Simply becauselevothyroxine is T4 only and can stay in your system for up to 7 weeks!
Can I ask, did you have blood tests before you changed to NDT? I'm a bit scared of taking the plunge to be honest . I have read so many posts about the benefits that I am sorely tempted to give it ago! Thanks for your response.
There's no need to be nervous as NDT was first introduced in 1892 and has a long time being tried and tested. Because it is also more compatible with human bodies I am sure you will find it helpful.
The only time we may have problems is if the fillers/binders in some NDTs might not agree with us but we can switch to another.
When NDT was prescribed originally it was gradually increased until the patient was well and we weren't dictated to by blood test then.
Good luck.
Thanks Shaws, the only reason I feel nervous is because I know my G.P won't be impressed and therefore won't guide me. Your reply gave me reassurance and I know I can always get help from this site.
